🎃👻 Keep the scares fun and Halloween safe! 👻🎃

Sierra Vista Hospital EMS wishes everyone in Sierra County a happy Halloween! Before heading out for treats, remember:

🔦 BE BRIGHT, BE SEEN. Carry flashlights or glow sticks and add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags.

🚶 CROSS WITH CARE. Use sidewalks and crosswalks, look both ways, and put phones away while walking.

👨‍👩‍👧 STAY TOGETHER. Young children should have an adult along. Older kids should travel in groups, follow an agreed route, and have a check-in time.

🦸 CHECK COSTUMES. Keep masks and hats from blocking vision. Make sure costumes fit well to prevent trips and falls.

🍬 INSPECT THE TREATS. Have an adult check candy before eating. Discard open or damaged packages and check labels for food allergens.

🚗 DRIVERS: SLOW DOWN. Watch closely for children, especially near parked cars and driveways. Put distractions away and drive sober.
Let’s make sure everyone gets home safely! 🧡

HEAVY RAIN & FLASH FLOODING

The National Weather Service has placed the region under a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) for flash flooding, with a Flood Watch in effect for Truth or Consequences and surrounding areas through 6:00 AM Wednesday.

Widespread rainfall totals of 1.5–2.5 inches, with isolated areas potentially receiving 3–4 inches.

Saturated ground from recent rainfall will increase the potential for flash flooding of roads, arroyos, streams, and other low-lying areas.

Heavy rain may continue through Tuesday night.

Strong winds are also possible as moisture associated with the remnants of Hurricane Polo moves through the region.

A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts potentially reaching 60+ mph and a low-confidence potential for a weak tornado.

Sierra Vista Hospital EMS reminds everyone:

TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN. Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway or low-water crossing. Water depth and road conditions can be impossible to judge, especially after dark.

Avoid arroyos and normally dry drainage areas during heavy rain. Flash flooding can develop rapidly, even when it is not raining directly overhead.
Secure outdoor objects that could become airborne in strong winds, and use extra caution if traveling in high-profile vehicles.

Keep your phone charged, enable emergency alerts, and monitor official weather information for changing conditions, watches, and warnings.
Please do not take unnecessary risks. If you encounter a flooded roadway—turn around and find another route.

Our Swiftwater Rescue Team remains on standby and ready to respond should flooding create the need for water rescue operations anywhere in our community. Stay safe, Sierra County.
