It’s Monsoon Awareness Week! 🌧️

Here in Southern Arizona, monsoon storms can build quickly, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and dangerous flooding.

Never drive through flooded roads or washes. It only takes a small amount of moving water to carry away a person or an entire vehicle.

Keep children away from washes, drainage areas, and standing water.

Avoid flooded areas.

Turn around. Don’t drown.

Hoops are on hold for now! 🏀

Crew members at Station 338 are taking a timeout while this hard-working hummingbird mom is nesting in their net.

Sometimes protecting life looks a little different.
We’ll get back to the game later!

If you don’t know a car seat’s history, don’t use it.

According to safety experts, a second-hand car seat is NOT safe to use if:

❌ You don’t know if it’s been in a crash
❌ It’s missing labels with manufacture date or model information
❌ It’s past its expiration date
❌ It has been recalled and not properly addressed
❌ It’s missing parts or instructions

A second-hand car seat MAY be acceptable, but only if ALL of the following are true:

• You know the full history of the seat, including that it has never been in a crash, even a minor one
• The labels and model information are intact and readable
• The seat is not expired
• The seat has not been recalled
• All original parts and instructions are included

The issue isn’t that second-hand automatically means unsafe. The issue is that most people cannot verify a used seat’s history.

Child passenger safety experts strongly recommend buying new unless the seat comes from someone you completely trust and can fully verify.

Fire Extinguisher Flashback Friday! 🧯

Flashing back to when our Public Educators worked with local employees to cover when to use a fire extinguisher and how to use it effectively using PASS: Pull. Aim. Squeeze. Sweep.

Quick action and the right knowledge can stop a small fire from becoming something much bigger.

Today, we honored Shop Supervisor Kevin Land as he retires after more than 21 years of service to Northwest Fire District.

For more than two decades, Kevin has been a critical part of the team behind the scenes, helping ensure our apparatus were ready when it mattered most. His work has supported every response, every call, and every moment our crews were needed.

From Mechanic Specialist to Master Emergency Vehicle Technician to Shop Supervisor, Kevin built a career defined by consistency, dedication, and pride in the job. He played a key role in maintaining the fleet and supporting the people who depend on it every day.

Today, that service was recognized with a procession of emergency vehicles and a flag ceremony, a meaningful tribute to his career and contributions.

Kevin, thank you for your dedication to this District, the Fleet Team, and our community. We wish you the very best in retirement!
