On the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stood on the Normandy ground where a generation of young Americans gave everything to free a continent. The Washington Post noticed something else and led with it: he had brought six of his children along on the official trip. Within hours the story was no longer about the men who stormed those beaches — it was about the family standing behind the Secretary.

The coverage came fast and sour. A handful of locals branded him 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢 𝘯𝘰𝘯 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘢, commentators sneered that a solemn remembrance had been turned into a taxpayer-funded 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲, and officials whispered that the children were a security burden. There is a tell in the outrage. The same press that shrugs at anti-American mobs and lionizes men who walk out on their families found its fury over a father who wanted his sons and daughters to stand where heroes fell. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧. A country that raises its children to honor that kind of sacrifice does not grow the sort of citizen the other side is counting on.

This is excellent news! Arizona is also in desperate need of more reliable, dispatchable power; especially after years of reckless green new deal investments that have already raised costs and reduced reliability.

In fact, Arizona’s public utilities plan to shutter every last bit of coal generation in Arizona by 2032. Most alarming is that the replacement fuel for this reliable source of energy will be solar, wind, and battery storage, all to meet their self-imposed carbon-reduction goals and net-zero vision. This will not only cost Arizona ratepayers billions, it will also destabilize the grid.

We need to reopen Cholla and stop the planned coal closures in the SRP service territory!
