This little brittlebush growing through the rocks on the edge of the quarry cliff.
🌼
It’s so cool to see nature slowly retake a place that was once destroyed by humans.
🌿
We are excited for this spring - there will be a ton of brittlebush blooms
! Make sure you come and take a short, easy hike on our trail that takes you around the top of the quarry.

There is a huge prickly pear patch on the side of A Mountain Heritage Park. Every year the prickly pears produce tons of fruit. Sadly this year there are hardly any fruits because there was hardly any rain in the winter and this monsoon season has been almost non existent. Many clouds but hardly any rain makes for beautiful sunsets but is hard on the desert plants that need the rain to produce fruit that feed the small animals that inhabit our desert. Our desert is resilient but these signs of climate change are very disheartening. We need to do our part to try to lessen our carbon footprints before these beautiful nature getaways disappear. 💔

Add a little rain and the plants in are happy again! The mammillaria grahamii or ni**le cactus are flowering their flower crowns giving away their hiding spots. Follow the trail all around the top of the quarry and you will see a ton of them ! 🌸

There are a couple of great horned owls that sleep in a cave in the quarry during the day and come out at dusk to start to hunt together right around the rim of the quarry. Take a walk East on the main trail right around 7pm for a chance to see these beauties up close. This is why it is so important to preserve the little bits of desert we have left. This is why we want to reclaim the quarry at the base of A mountain, preserve it and make it a desert park we can walk through to see beauty like this so close to downtown Tucson.
