Today’s New York Times reports a decade-long decline in American student test scores. The drop cuts across income, geography, and race, and even most high-income districts have lost ground. We wanted to share where CFSD stands. Over the past ten years, our students gained in reading and remain well above the national average in both reading and math. We are not satisfied, but we are grateful. Thank you to the teachers and families who make this possible.
A national report on student achievement, and where CFSD stands
Dear CFSD community,This morning, the New York Times published a major story on a decade-long decline in American student test scores. The article, based on new data from Stanford's Educational Opp...

On Wednesday morning, the team from Concord General Contracting walked into Catelin Beachy's classroom with balloons, a giant ceremonial check, and a $500 Amazon gift card to surprise her as one of their 2026 Teacher Appreciation Week winners. Catelin was selected as one of just 16 honorees out of more than 1,000 nominations across the region.
If you know Ms. Beachy, you know exactly why she was chosen.
For 16 years, she has been the kind of special education teacher who sees every student fully, meets them where they are, and walks alongside them through the work of growing up. Middle school is hard for everyone, and it can be especially hard for students who learn differently. Ms. Beachy has made Orange Grove a place where those students feel known, supported, and celebrated.
For Ms. Beachy, being a special education teacher isn't just a profession. It's a commitment to making a difference, one student, one moment, and one breakthrough at a time. Catalina Foothills School District

A little Orange Grove pride this Teacher Appreciation Week.
AZPM stopped by classrooms across Tucson to ask students about the teachers they will never forget, and one of our own eighth graders, Meleia Anderson, had plenty to say about Mr. Bindschadler. The Twilight Zone posters. The murder mystery trial. The future-simulation projects. A gifted English classroom she gets to "experience" every day.
The lovely full-circle bonus: the journalist behind the story, Noor Haghighi, is a former student of Mr. B's herself. His impact stretches well past eighth grade.
Thank you, Mr. Bindschadler. We are so lucky to have you.
Tucson students share the importance of teacher appreciation
For this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week, AZPM heads back to school to ask kiddos about their favorite teachers.
