Some dogs have a heart of gold that shines so brightly it radiates through their entire being! Sunshine-in-a-bottle SkyA837256 is one such pup! Despite spending her days and nights in the shelter, Sky retains her enthusiastic joyfulness, which is evident to everyone she meets! ⛅️ 🌈

Sky was found by a member of the public who kept her for two days and stated she is very mellow and loving, likes attention and pets, and is a cuddlebug and a sweetheart. Here’s what her volunteer friends have said:

“Sky is a sweet girl and her tail is always wagging. Every time I walk by her kennel, she's wiggling her butt with the biggest smile. She is easy to leash and not reactive to other dogs. She loves roughhousing with her kennelmate and it's fun to watch them. She listens well and knows many tricks.”

“Sky is a spunky, chunky land seal! (Look at her sweet face: she looks EXACTLY like a seal!!) She was calm and friendly when I went to her kennel to take her out. In the yard she was snuggalicious and also super playful! I tossed a toy around and she would bounce and bound after it and bring it back to me, engaging in a game of tug. What a cutie!! We had so much fun together. I know she will bring endless joy and laughter into her future home!”

Sky shares her kennel with another PACC pup and would like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to ensure a good fit. 🐾

Sprinkles A887098 recently got a chance to get a break from the shelter through our Daytrips and Paw-jama Party short-term foster programs! 🚗 🐾

She went on an adventure, enjoying a nice walk and enjoyed some yummy treats. She did well meeting an 8-year old child and was a fun and curious adventure buddy! Her new friend said that she is an energetic, excited and silly gal who is social and fun, did great in the car, and loved being outdoors. Here’s what one volunteer at the shelter said:

“Sprinkles is such an enthusiastic and happy girl! She’s always thrilled to get out of her kennel for an adventure in the park or time in the play yard. She’s athletic, energetic, and would make a GREAT adventure buddy. This gal is meant for a bigger life than a shelter kennel can offer and I hope she finds her family soon!”

Sprinkles has shared her kennel and would like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to ensure a good fit. Ask to meet Sprinkles today!!

🐕 🐩 Looking to adopt an instant pair of buddies? Consider adopting kennelmates! We are often asked why people can't just adopt two separate dogs and just take them home, and the reason is safety.

Change is hard! and it can be stressful, too. 😵‍💫 So we ask that unless they have successfully lived together at PACC, we encourage 30 days in between adoptions, with a meet and greet prior to going home.

Lost and found dog season is here. 😔

Here are some frequently asked questions:
❓️ My pet is at the shelter, but I am worried about fees.
👉️ Reclaim fees are waived in most cases. If your pet frequently gets out, we may also be able to help you find a way to keep your pet confined.
❓️Why do you recommend keeping a stray pet in the neighborhood where I found them?
👉️ Most pets are found within a mile of their home and are 85% more likely to make it back home if kept in that area!
❓️When should I take a stray pet to the shelter?
👉️ The shelter should always be a last resort for found pets. Once a pet enters the shelter, the chance of them going back home to their family plummets to less than 15%. Sick or injured strays should be brought to the shelter so they may receive care but anyone who finds a healthy stray should follow the steps.
❓️What should I do if I see a pet that is sick or injured or in a dangerous location and I cannot safely transport them?
👉️ If you see a pet that is sick, injured, in a dangerous location, or poses a risk to public safety, please call our Animal Protection Services Dispatch team at 520-724-5900 ext. 4 so that an officer may respond.

People often ask us, "Where does PACC need the most help?" Our answer: Medium to large dogs. 🐕️ 🐩 We need adopters and fosters for dogs weighing 30lbs or more. Yogi Bear A900039, pictured here is a big 'ol sweetie.

It's complicated, because we know there are folks who'd love to help but can't because their landlord/HOA/apartment complex won't allow them to have a big dog. And some families just don't have the finances right now to take on a dog full time. We totally get it. 😔

Those reasons are the same ones why we end up with many bigger dogs, too. The surrender forms are filled with sad families who can't keep their dogs but have no other choice. 😭

So, yeah, we need help with medium to large dogs. Please consider fostering if you can.

✨️ Gather ‘round to hear the tale of a delightful pup hunting for her Happily Ever After.✨️

Katniss arrived at PACC near the end of March 2026. Her sweet personality and requests for belly rubs quickly garnered this beautiful lady a large fan club of staff and volunteers. With her mellow personality and standout smile, she also started going on day trip outings to show off just how amazing she is. She was searching high and low for her new family, but nothing was working out. Katniss even found supportive foster homes a few times, but who her forever family would be still remained a mystery.

Unbeknownst to Katniss, in the faraway wilds of Colorado, her perfect family was hunting for her, too. 🔎 They looked far and wide, searching hundreds of miles in an effort to find the dog that they knew in their hearts was meant for them. They even reached out to family members about what they could do to find their elusive girl. In an effort to help, their sister-in-law made an offer to have them look at her local shelter and she would happily transport a dog to Colorado. Excited by the new opportunity, Katniss’ future family opened the PACC website, scrolling through the first couple of dogs and there she was! Their perfect girl, Katniss! Immediately they called their family member, and within 24 hours, Katniss was being cuddled by her new cousins.

Katniss is a Colorado girl now, enjoying all the tummy rubs her new mom, dad, and cousins can give! 🐾 🎀
