Saturday's Work Event was graced with pleasant weather which aided us in accomplishing most of what we set out to do. Thank you to Larry, Stewart, Sandy, Sarah, Jeanette, Jon, Kirby, Anneli and Redflower for their time and energy!! Trash was picked up, bag dispensers refilled, branches trimmed, sticks rounded up, bushes & trees watered, weeds pulled, duck huts maintained and ducklings photographed. What a productive morning we had!

As you know, in addition to our scheduled Work Events, many people volunteer daily/weekly/throughout the month to contribute to our efforts:
*Thanks to Rob, Steve L, and Isabella, for the care our ducks receive daily.
*Thanks to Sandy for helping to get the word out about our park and events with her Facebook and bulletin board updates.
*Thanks to Steve R for the duck food that he ensures is available and for the work supplies he gathers.
*Thanks to Ann B for the various projects she has taken on with Scouting America and with the Tucson Bird Alliance to benefit the park.
*Thanks to those who walk through the park often, picking up trash - Jeanette, Nancy, Aldo, Lori and likely unknown others.
*And many thanks to our financial contributors - without you, we would not be able to do this work properly!

Our next Work Event will be held on Saturday, June 13th. Look for confirmation and details through email and on Facebook in the week preceding.

Last month we posted about a joint project between Boy Scout Troop 209 and the Tucson Bird Alliance to install nesting boxes for birds throughout Fort Lowell Park. This month the Alliance’s publication, the Vermilion Flycatcher, included an article on the project, SCOUTING FOR BIRD HOMES, with even more information on the project. (See pdf page 20.)

Volunteers for Saturday's Work Event were few but productive. Thank you Anneli and Jeanette for your time and muscle power! Branches and shrubbery were trimmed, debris was cleared from the pond, and trash was picked up in popular areas within the park. The weather was beautiful, the park was quiet, and we were blessed with the presence of 9-10 tiny Mallard ducklings on the pond. Thanks to Sheila and Redflower for the duckling photos.

In addition to our scheduled Work Events, many people volunteer daily/weekly/throughout the month to contribute to our efforts. Once again, the Friends of Fort Lowell Park participated in Fort Lowell Day, a celebration of the history of Fort Lowell, a U.S. Army post located where the park is now, which was active 1871- 1891. The event was hosted by the Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood. We talked to visitors who came to our table who came throughout the day. There were questions about what our organization does at the park, the Wildlife Oasis, the pond and the animals who live in it year-round as well as birds who migrate through southern Arizona and use the pond as a rest stop. All in all, it was a very good day!

We thank the volunteers who manned the table and made our participation possible: Stewart, Steve, Sandy and Sheila.
