President Trump’s latest reckless decision to fire thousands of employees at the Department of Education jeopardizes critical student aid programs, weakens protections for students’ civil rights, and undermines essential support for students with disabilities. This move severely threatens every child’s access to a quality education nationwide.

Trump and Musk are prioritizing tax cuts for the wealthy over the future of our students. It’s selfish, and it’s illegal. This radical gutting of the Department will mean funding cuts for every student:

- 26 million kids across every school district—rural, suburban and urban—will lose access to critical funding to help them get succeed.

- 12 million students will lose access to career and technical education, including pathways to good-paying jobs through apprenticeship programs in trades and STEM careers.

- 10 million students from low-income families could lose access to higher education.

- 7.5 million students with Individualized Education Plans—accounting for 15 percent of all students nationwide —will lose access to special education services.

Special Edition Month in Review - Rep. Grijalva's Actions to Fight Back Against DOGE 03/10/2025

Donald Trump has empowered billionaire Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to dismantle our government institutions from within. Their illegal actions have caused chaos, confusion and harm to American families, from mass layoffs to reductions in services. Use link below for a full report on the actions I have taken to fight back against DOGE:

Trump administration moves to drop Idaho emergency abortion case with national implications 03/06/2025

I am dismayed that the U.S. Department of Justice, led by Trump loyalist and anti-abortion extremist Pam Bondi, will be dropping Idaho v. United States. This case centers on whether Idaho’s total abortion ban unlawfully conflicts with the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA)’s requirement to provide emergency abortion care.

This is straight out of Project 2025’s extreme playbook, and the latest proof that the Trump administration does not care or value the millions of lives that will be at stake with a national abortion ban.

Trump administration moves to drop Idaho emergency abortion case with national implications The Trump administration is dropping an emergency abortion case in Idaho in one of the administration’s first moves on the issue since President Donald Trump's second term began.

CDC Reports Nearly 24% Decline in U.S. Drug Overdose Deaths 03/04/2025

Good news alert. CDC reports nearly 24% decline in U.S. drug overdose deaths for the 12 months ending in September 2024. While this decline is encouraging news, overdose remains the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-44. Now is not the time to change course on efforts that have proven successful.

One lost is too many, we must say NO to cuts to evidence-based overdose prevention efforts to ensure that progress continues.

President Trump is placing the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on the chopping block. His administration is working to reduce HUD’s staff by 50%. These employees and departments are not “wasteful.” They support over 5 million households across the nation. This is not light work. In Arizona alone, over 84,000 people benefit from HUD programs.

None of us should have to worry about putting food on the table or a roof over our head. The administration is making both of those things very difficult. I oppose any attempts to cut staff or funding from HUD.
