Joel D. Valdez Main Library We're looking forward to seeing you! Our libraries welcome the 1 million+ readers, learners, doers, & In 1990, the library was named in honor of Joel D.

The Tucson Public Library started out on the top floor of city hall in 1886. Andrew Carnegie gave Tucson a $25,000 grant, which was used to build the first library building located at 200 S. 6th Street (currently the home of the Children’s Museum Tucson). The building was home to the “Main Library” until the completion of the current Main Library on Stone Avenue in May 1990, which consolidated Library Administration, Technical Services, Periodicals, and Government Reference. Valdez who served as the Tucson City Manager for 16 years and helped create the Downtown Development Corporation. Want to see what your pet looks like with purple fur? How about your friend group glowing as every color of the rainbow? We can make that happen with color!

All supplies provided, just bring your photos. Thursday & Friday 10/15-10/16, 4-5pm.

Bring your child and enjoy stories, songs, and activities that promote early literacy and healthy development.

Geared towards children aged 2-5 years and their parents/caregivers. Each Storytime is 20-30 minutes long. Storytime is every Tuesday starting at 10:15 a.m.

Park in the Main Library Parking Garage at 45 W. Alameda St. The first hour is free. We'll give you a second ticket at the end of Storytime for a total of two hours free, enough to enjoy the program and select books afterward.

Tweens and teens! Submit your 2D science fiction, fantasy, comics, or manga-style artwork to your local library branch by Monday, October 19, 2026, for the annual Worlds of Imagination Art Showcase. All participants will receive a certificate of participation! Check out these books if you need inspiration.
