On behalf of the Swisher County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to personally thank each of the departments and organizations for your assistance during yesterday’s large wildfire response in Kress, TX.

Your quick response, professionalism, teamwork, and dedication were instrumental in protecting lives, property, and our communities during a very dangerous situation. Events like this remind us how vital the mutual aid and strong working relationships are between our agencies and communities.

The long hours, difficult conditions, and tireless efforts displayed by all responding personnel did not go unnoticed. We are extremely grateful for your willingness to respond and stand alongside us when our county needed it most.

Please extend our appreciation to all firefighters, deputies, police officers, dispatchers, EMS personnel, and support staff who assisted throughout this incident. Even those who simply brought water, drinks, food, or supplies — your support mattered, and we do not want anyone left out.

Most importantly, I would like to thank “my farmer network.” I have said this for years, and it remains true today. Our farmers showed up in full force with water tenders, semi-trucks, tractors, heavy equipment, and manpower to assist with the fire response. Not a single one of them asked for anything in return. I could not be more proud of, or thankful for, the producers we have here in Swisher County.

I would also like to emphasize to the citizenry of Kress, TX. You should be proud of yourselves!

Thank you again for your commitment to public safety and for the continued partnership between our agencies and community.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., members of the Randall County Sheriff’s Office S.P.E.A.R. Unit contacted the Swisher County Sheriff’s Office and advised that they were conducting surveillance on an individual with multiple active felony arrest warrants.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., it was determined that the wanted individual was inside a residence located just south of Happy, Texas.
