But even with a steady paycheck, barriers can remain.

A past eviction can make finding a landlord willing to rent difficult. Saving for a security deposit takes time. And finding an affordable apartment can be another challenge entirely.

That's why clients at our Transitional Living Center (TLC) work alongside their case managers to develop individualized housing plans, address barriers, build savings and take steps toward permanent housing.

Because homelessness doesn't look the same for everyone, and neither does the path home. ❤️

For someone experiencing homelessness, getting a job can be an important step toward stability. But even with a steady paycheck, barriers remain. A past eviction can make finding a landlord willing to rent difficult. Saving for a security deposit takes time. And finding an apartment that fits within a limited budget can be another challenge entirely.

That’s why every client at the Transitional Living Center (TLC) has a housing plan tailored to their individual needs, circumstances and goals.

Because homelessness doesn’t look the same for everyone, and neither does the path home. ❤️

Housing Success Story – N&A 🏠

For N&A, the journey to permanent housing took patience, persistence and a lot of hard work.

During their time at the Tulsa County Transitional Living Center (TLC), N&A continued working toward greater stability while navigating the steps required to secure permanent housing. They obtained a housing voucher, maintained savings and stayed focused on finding a place they could call home.

They also kept looking toward the future. "A" completed forklift training, secured employment and enrolled in welding school to continue building new skills and career opportunities.

After months of applications, paperwork and waiting, N&A were approved for a townhome and are now preparing for their next chapter.

Before moving, they visited TLC's donated household items and picked out some of the things that will help make their new place feel like home with cookware, dishes, small appliances, games and other everyday essentials.

Some journeys take longer than expected, but N&A kept moving forward. Today, they're not just preparing to leave TLC. They're preparing to go home.

Housing Success Story – Ms. X 🏡

When Ms. X came to the Tulsa County Transitional Living Center (TLC), she arrived ready to work toward a new beginning for herself and her family.

And work is exactly what she did.

Throughout her time at TLC, Ms. X maintained employment, worked closely with her case manager and stayed focused on the goals she had set for herself. She took full advantage of TLC’s savings program and built $2,500 in savings to help with the expenses of moving into her new home.

But she didn’t stop there. Ms. X continued investing in her future professionally, completing coursework toward regaining her real estate license while working and preparing for permanent housing.

Now, all of that hard work is paying off. ❤️

As she prepares to move into her own home, Ms. X has been selecting donated dishes, kitchenware, laundry supplies and other household essentials to help turn an empty space into a home for her family.

Ms. X’s story is one of determination, hard work and what can happen when someone is given the opportunity and support to keep moving forward.

We are incredibly proud of her and honored to have walked beside her on her journey.

This is what hope looks like. ❤️

Sometimes, it looks like a set of apartment keys. Sometimes, it looks like an envelope going into this deposit box and watching a savings balance grow.

At the Transitional Living Center (TLC), clients work toward building the financial foundation they’ll need when it’s time to move into permanent housing. That can mean setting aside money for deposits, move-in expenses and the costs that come with starting over in a new home.

Every deposit represents hard work, discipline and another step forward.

The keys may come later. But today, progress looks like building toward them. 🔑

September impact at Social Services ❤️

September was a month of progress at TLC (Transitional Living Center), and for five clients, that progress ended with a move into permanent housing. 🔑

But the work starts long before move-in. Our current TLC caseload has more than $9,800 saved toward housing. 13 clients/households have employment or another documented source of income.

Others are moving through housing applications, approvals, inspections and the final steps before move-in.

Every application completed, dollar saved, barrier removed and door opened represents progress.

The keys may be the moment we celebrate, but there is a lot of work that happens before the keys.

We’re proud to walk beside our clients as they work toward their goals and a more stable future.

A note from the pharmacy 💊

Since opening in 2004, the George Prothro Pharmacy at Tulsa County Social Services has helped thousands of people access the medications they need.

But unlike a retail pharmacy like Walgreens or CVS, it serves a specific purpose in our community.

What happens during 90 days at TLC? 🔑

At the Transitional Living Center (TLC), our goal is to help clients move from homelessness to permanent housing within 90 days.

But getting from Day 1 to housing looks different for every person.

It may mean replacing an ID. Finding employment or increasing income. Applying for benefits. Building savings. Addressing transportation or childcare barriers. Searching for landlords. Completing housing applications. And sometimes, starting again when the first plan doesn't work.

Our case management and housing teams work alongside each client to identify their individual barriers and build a plan toward permanent housing.

90 days is our goal, not a promise that every journey will take exactly 90 days. Because the keys are the moment everyone celebrates. ❤️

But a lot of work happens before the keys.

Our Transitional Living Center (TLC) is a 90-day program focused on helping clients move toward permanent housing.

During their stay, clients work with our team to identify and address the barriers standing between them and their next home — things like employment and income, IDs, transportation, savings and housing applications.

Most importantly, clients are doing the work — earning income, saving money, completing applications and taking steps toward their own goals, with our team walking beside them along the way.

90 days is the goal, not a guarantee. Every journey looks different, but the goal is the same:

A place of their own. 🔑❤️
