Illegal Alien from Vietnam Convicted of Failure to Register as a S*x Offender

TULSA, Okla.— A federal jury convicted Toan Chu for failing to register as a s*x offender within Indian Country. Chu, a Vietnamese national, had convictions from 1992 out of Alameda County, California, for R**e by Force in Concert with Another in the Commission of Kidnapping, Forcible Oral Copulation of a Minor in Commission of Kidnapping, and Assault During So**my in the Commission of Kidnapping. Federal law required Chu to register as a s*x offender for life at any place he resided. Owasso police learned that a 15-year-old girl, not related to Chu, was living at his residence when Chu brought the girl to enroll at school. Chu had not registered at that residence as required.

Jury Convicts Armed Illegal Alien from El Salvador for Drug Trafficking Crimes

A federal jury convicted Geovanny Alexander Pineda Cubias, a citizen of El Salvador unlawfully residing in the United States, of three counts charged against him. The October 15, 2026, verdict includes convictions for possessing a fi***rm and am******on as an illegal alien, possessing co***ne with intent to distribute, and possessing fi***rms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

“This verdict sends a clear message: individuals who arm themselves illegally and fuel drug trafficking in our communities will be held fully accountable,” said U.S. Attorney Christopher Nassar. “Our office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to remove violent offenders from our neighborhoods and keep the public safe.”

On Friday, October 16, U.S. Attorney Chris Nassar held his investiture ceremony, where he was sworn in by Chief Judge John F. Heil III. The ceremony included a national anthem performance by Detective Reggie Warren and remarks from Congressman Kevin Hern. We appreciate all who were able to attend, including judges, colleagues, law enforcement partners, officials, friends, and family. This event marks an important moment for the Northern District of Oklahoma and we are excited for this next chapter.

Christopher J. Nassar was sworn in as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma on August 14, 2026, after his nomination by the President and confirmation by the Senate. As U.S. Attorney, he serves as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the district, overseeing federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation. The Northern District spans 11 counties and includes 14 federally recognized tribes. Following the Supreme Court’s McGirt decision, the office prosecutes all Major Crimes occurring in Indian Country within the district, alongside its traditional federal responsibilities. He leads a team of more than 130 attorneys and support professionals.

Mr. Nassar is also a lieutenant colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and has served as a judge advocate on active duty and in the reserves since 2009.

A Tulsa native, Mr. Nassar is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Tulsa City Council is co-sponsoring a series of town hall discussions with the Family Safety Center, DVIS, U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma and the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office.

Each town hall will feature a panel discussion with local experts, an opportunity for community Q&A and connections to local service providers and resources.

These conversations are an important opportunity to learn, ask questions, share resources and connect with one another around a shared goal: creating a safer community for everyone.

Today our office participated in Purple Thursday, a day dedicated to raising awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

U.S. Attorney Chris Nassar and First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Heatherman came together with our NDOK team in purple to stand in solidarity with victims of domestic violence. Their commitment helps shine a light on the importance of prevention, support, and education.

Domestic violence affects individuals, families, and communities everywhere. By taking part in Purple Thursday, we hope to help spread awareness, encourage conversations, and support those impacted.

Oklahoma Resident Sentenced for Threatening to Murder a Member of Congress

While death threats against federal officials continue to rise, a Jay resident was sentenced today after entering a plea of guilty to threatening to assault, kidnap, and murder United States Representative Josh Brecheen and to knowingly engaging in a course of conduct that caused, attempted to cause, or would be reasonably expected to cause substantial emotional distress to Congressman Brecheen and his family.
