Mosquitoes go through four life stages: eggs, larvae, pupae and adults. The first three stages develop in standing water, which is why removing water from containers around your home is one of the most effective ways to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. Take a few minutes each week to empty, drain or cover items that collect water, such as buckets, flowerpots, birdbaths and tires.

By knowing the mosquito lifecycle, we can all help reduce mosquito populations and protect our community from mosquito-borne illnesses.

Staying healthy is important year-round. While flu activity may change with the seasons, viruses like RSV and COVID-19 can still spread and lead to serious illness for some people.

Simple everyday habits like washing your hands, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces like phones and other devices, staying home when you’re sick and keeping up with recommended vaccines can help protect you, your family and your community.
