šØ Public Safety Announcement / New Fentanyl Formulation on the Streets
We want to make you aware of a concerning new trend in drug mixtures that poses serious health risks. Our Forensic Laboratory has detected the presence of Medetomidine, a powerful veterinary sedative, in fentanyl mixtures.
Signs of Medetomidine Toxicity Include:
- Sedation and impaired pain sensation
- Dry mouth and slowed breathing
- Hypnotic/anesthetic effects
- Dilated pupils and hypothermia
- Muscle twitching and slowed heart rate
- Initial high blood pressure, followed by dangerously low blood pressure
Please note:
Medetomidine is NOT an opioid and will NOT respond to Naloxone (NarcanĀ®). While Naloxone should still be administered in the event of a suspected fentanyl overdose, itās crucial to call emergency medical services immediately.
Your safety is our top priority. Stay informed and look out for one another.
If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, please seek help right away. Donāt forget that 988 (https://988lifeline.org/) is available to help.
