One final hunt was supposed to be a chance for a father and son to make another memory together. Instead, it became a way for a son to honor his father’s legacy. 🇺🇸
Korean War and Vietnam veteran Joe Pizzini was nominated for a Soldier’s Wish to go on one final hunt with his son, Army veteran Doug Shreve.
Joe served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, including fighting in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, before going on to serve another 22 years in the U.S. Air Force. Doug followed his father’s legacy of service with 20 years in the U.S. Army, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan and earning a Purple Heart.
Soldier’s Wish partnered with House in the Woods to plan a bear hunt in Maine for Joe and Doug. Sadly, Joe’s health declined before they could make the trip, and he passed away on September 2, 2025.
A year later, Joe’s wish was carried forward. Doug traveled to Maine alongside fellow veteran, Retired Maj. Steven Rindahl, a Bronze Star recipient who served as a chaplain during deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Together, they made the trip in Joe’s honor.
This meaningful experience was made possible by the donors who came together at an &Wh**ky event to fund the wish. Thank you to each of those donors, And Wh**ky and House In The Woods for helping us honor Joe’s life, service, and the wish he hoped to share with his son.
Some wishes become more than a moment. They become a way to carry someone’s memory forward. 🇺🇸
