đźš’ Last weekend, the Turlock Fire Department welcomed the community to Fire Station 31 for its annual Open House!

Families had the opportunity to meet firefighters, explore equipment, learn about fire safety, and watch live demonstrations throughout the day, including fire behavior, fire extinguisher use and vehicle extrication.

The event also included activities for kids and plenty of opportunities to get a closer look at the work our firefighters do every day.

Thank you to all of the community partners who joined us, set up informational booths, shared resources, and gave their time to help make the Open House a great day for everyone who attended.

A special thank you also goes to Turlock Firefighters Local 2434, who fired up the grill and served hot dogs to the community. It was great to see families, firefighters, partners, and neighbors sitting down and sharing a meal together throughout the afternoon. 🌭

And, of course, thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, participated in the demonstrations, and spent part of their Saturday with the Turlock Fire Department.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Open House possible!

“Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower™”

CHEAP CHARGER?
DON’T CHANCE IT.

NFPA recommends using the cord and charger that came with the device or one approved by the manufacturer. The wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the chance of fire, and cheap or off-brand chargers may not meet important safety standards.

NFPA also recommends looking for products listed by a nationally recognized testing laboratory, such as UL, ETL, or CSA, because the listing indicates the product meets applicable safety standards.

Phone Charger Safety
• Use the charger and cable supplied by the manufacturer or a compatible replacement from a reputable source.
• Look for products that are listed/certified by a recognized testing laboratory.
• Avoid cheap, counterfeit, damaged, or uncertified chargers.
• Replace cords that are frayed, cracked, loose, or unusually hot.
• Charge phones on a hard, flat surface, not on a bed, couch, pillow, or under blankets.
• Stop using a charger or device if it becomes excessively hot, swells, smells unusual, or shows signs of damage.

🔥🚒 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | OCTOBER 4–10, 2026 🚒🔥

The Turlock Fire Department is proud to join the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) in recognizing Fire Prevention Week™!

⚡ This year’s theme:
“Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” ⚡
Lithium-ion batteries power many of the things we use every day — phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, toys, e-bikes, scooters, and more. While these batteries make our lives easier, it’s important to use and charge them safely.

🔋 Power up safely!
• Use the charging cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
• Charge devices on a hard, flat surface.
• Never charge devices under pillows, blankets, or other materials that can trap heat.
• Stop using batteries that show signs of damage, swelling, or overheating.
• Keep charging devices away from exits and escape routes.

This Fire Prevention Week, make safe charging a part of your everyday routine. Small choices can make a BIG difference in preventing fires and keeping our homes and community safe.

⚡ Plug in. Power up. Stay safe. 🚒
