On this Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I am calling every organizer, activist, member, volunteer, and partner to live in the legacy of Dr. King and . Soon, the Senate will vote on The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, and your senator MUST vote “yes” to protect our voting rights. Contact your senator now using the NAACP Action Alert. You can call, email, and even tweet your senator to demand they use their vote to ensure they stand on the right side of history. You can also text "Voting Rights" to 20707 and receive the action alert on your phone.
Over the past year, we’ve seen countless laws drawn up by state legislators which restrict access to the ballot box for millions of Americans. And in this critical midterm election year, our voting rights are more important than ever.
As a nation, we can ensure elections are free of barriers for all eligible voters. This requires the federal government, in partnership with states, to provide dedicated resources to guarantee that all communities — especially those systematically left behind — are included.
