🌞🔬 Learning, exploring, creating, and discovering—that's what Summer Learning is all about!

Students at Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools - Elementary spent the day putting their curiosity to work in a variety of hands-on activities. Some young scientists headed outdoors for a nature walk through the garden, observing plant and animal life and recording their discoveries like real field researchers. 🌱🐞

Inside the classroom, creativity and math came together as students designed their dream bedrooms, using measurement, budgeting, and problem-solving skills to bring their ideas to life. 🏡📏✨

Meanwhile, future engineers put their teamwork and critical thinking to the test, building structures with toothpicks and experimenting with different designs to see what would stand the test of strength and stability. 🏗️💡

From science and math to writing and engineering, our students are proving that learning doesn't stop when summer begins—it just gets even more fun! 😎☀️

🥁🎶 The beat goes on this summer in TCS and at Central Elementary School thanks to Drum Nation!

Paul W. Bryant High Schoolalumnus Phillip Craig is bringing the joy of drumming to Summer Learning sites throughout Tuscaloosa. Students are learning rhythm, terminology, and basic drumming techniques while gaining exposure to a new musical outlet. Craig hopes the experience will inspire students to continue developing their skills and discover a passion for music that lasts well beyond the summer.

From keeping the beat to building confidence and creativity, these young musicians are making some noise this summer! 🎵👏

🏆➕ Math Success Continues at Verner Elementary! ➕🏆

Verner Elementary’s National Level 4th Grade Math Team competed today in the Perennial Summer Math Tournament’s “Juneometry” individual competition, and there is plenty to celebrate!

🎉 Graham Roberts earned 2nd place overall, securing an early qualification spot for 5th Grade Nationals during the 2026-27 school year.

Even more exciting, all of Verner’s team members have been invited to compete in the July Perennial Summer Tournament, “Summer Sizzler,” creating additional opportunities for more students to qualify early for 5th Grade Nationals—before they even begin 5th grade.

This accomplishment builds on an incredible year. In December, the team earned 1st place overall in the Perennial Math Online Tournament team competition and 3rd place overall in the individual competition. They then attended the National Tournament for the first time in May, gaining valuable experience that helped prepare them for today’s success and will continue to benefit them in future competitions.

Congratulations to Graham and the entire Verner Elementary math team on another outstanding achievement! 🎊📚➗

It's officially summer break, but we are still celebrating our amazing teachers!

Ms. Peterson, a teacher at Southview Elementary School, recently received an “Everyday Amazing” shoutout for the positive impact she has made on both students and parents. 💙

“Ms. Peterson is the BEST, hands down! I truly appreciate everything she does. I love how she always keeps us parents informed, lets us know exactly what we need to work on with our kids, and most importantly, my son feels comfortable and happy in her class, and as a parent, that means everything to me,” said Tameshia Aldridge.

Has a teacher, staff member or colleague made a difference in your child’s day—or gone the extra mile to help others? Help us celebrate the everyday moments that matter.

🎶🎺 Big news for music education in Tuscaloosa City Schools! 🎷🥁

Students at The Alberta School of Performing Arts (TASPA), Eastwood Middle Schooll, and Oakdale Elementary School will soon have greater access to musical instruments thanks to a generous $65,000 donation through the 2026 Tour Give Back Program from the Morgan Wallen Foundation. 🎵

The funding will be used to purchase instruments for the schools' band programs, creating new opportunities for students to explore music, develop their talents, and participate in band. TASPA Band Director Veronica Crawford says the donation will strengthen existing programs and help make music education accessible to even more students. 🎼✨

The Morgan Wallen Foundation supports youth programs focused on music and sports, while the grant is being administered through the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which works with schools across the country to provide instruments and support music education. 🎺🎻🎹
