The Tuscaloosa Children’s Center, Inc. Statement on COVID-19

The Tuscaloosa Children’s Center, Inc. is closely monitoring the local impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. While this situation is quickly developing, there is still much we do not know. At the Center, we are focusing on how we can best prepare and support our staff, our clients and the community. The health and safety of our employees is of great concern. We are following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and are taking proactive steps to implement additional health safety measures in our office to best prevent the spread of COVID-19. At this time TCC staff will be continuing operations via telework and limited, intermittent office hours to keep everyone safe and healthy. We will continue to check emails and messages left via voicemail. We will conduct forensic interviews for emergency situations only and all speaking engagements for Child Abuse Prevention Month have been cancelled.

Please lift in prayer the children living in our community. While most are spending their spring breaks in safe and healthy homes with loving families, some are not. Many children are with parents or others who abuse drugs and alcohol. Some are staying with adults who abuse them physically or sexually. Factor in the financial challenges for families in our community and the overall increase in anxiety and stress, and it creates an unsafe environment for children. Accordingly, we anticipate child abuse cases to increase in the weeks ahead.

We hope that everyone in our community remains safe and healthy as we work together to flatten the curve. Please do not hesitate to contact us via email at [email protected] if you have any questions.
