🇺🇸 Remembering D-Day
June 6, 1944
At approximately 7:00 a.m. on June 6, 1944, the third wave of American soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy as part of Operation Overlord, or as most call it: D-Day. It was one of the most pivotal moments in world history. Among that third wave was First Lieutenant Beasor B. Walker, a platoon leader with the 1st Infantry Division. Walker would serve throughout the European theater. After the war he continued to serve, but was also elected Sheriff of Tuscaloosa County. Serving from 1971-1991.
Reflecting on that historic day, Walker shared “It was a long day. There were bodies everywhere… I was just hoping we could get across the beach without becoming one of them.”
Our Patrol Division proudly operates from the Sheriff Beasor B. Walker Patrol Law Enforcement Complex.
Also serving on the beaches of Normandy that day was Al DuPont, who would later become Mayor of Tuscaloosa. As a combat medic, DuPont risked his life caring for wounded soldiers amid the chaos and carnage of the invasion.
Today, we remember their sacrifice, their service, and their legacy. We also remember all those who gave it all to liberate Europe.

🍩 Happy National Donut Day! 🍩
Huge thanks to Vanessa Twiggs and our friends at The Salvation Army for donuting, we mean donating, a couple dozen hot Krispy Kreme donuts to the Sheriff’s Office this morning.
For those concerned about operational readiness after the sugar intake, rest assured: Chief Miles’ VO₂ max is still above average, deputies can still sprint after bad decisions, and the only thing in immediate danger today was the break room coffee supply.
We appreciate the support from community partners who keep morale high and powdered sugar everywhere.

Throwback Thursday
Step back in time with us to 1964 during the construction of the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse. Hard to imagine how much Tuscaloosa has transformed since then.
👀 Can you spot what is now the Sheriff’s Office while it was still under construction?
We’ve also included a few other photos from around downtown.
🚗 Bonus challenge: Can anyone identify the makes and models of those classic automobiles? Drop your guesses, memories, and stories in the comments, we’d love to hear them! 👇

This morning, Abby made the trip back to Tuscaloosa and arrived at our office at 4:00 a.m. to measure and make paracord bracelets for B rotation patrol.
From time to time, we hear "thank you for your service" from members of our community, and those words are always appreciated. But the truth is, we could not do what we do without the support of the public. Individuals like Abby remind us that law enforcement is strengthened by the communities that we serve.
In addition to stopping by our office, Abby also visited the Tuscaloosa Police Department and Northport Police Department - Northport, Alabama. She even shared her impressive collection of challenge coins and patches, which she has collected over the past decade.
Thank you, Abby, for your kindness, your encouragement, and your unwavering support of first responders. Acts like yours make a difference and serve as a reminder that we are all in this together.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was pleased to welcome the Y’s Men of Tuscaloosa for a luncheon this past Wednesday at the Sheriff Beasor B. Walker Law Enforcement Complex.
Following a tour of our facilities, Sheriff Abernathy provided an overview of the Sheriff’s Office and took time to answer questions from the group.
The Y’s Men of Tuscaloosa are a dedicated group of local professionals committed to supporting our community and the families who benefit from YMCA youth and outreach programs. We appreciate their continued involvement and partnership in making Tuscaloosa a stronger community.
