Please give us a call to find out more about our services and programs! Established in 1948, the Weaver-Bolden Library was the first branch of the Tuscaloosa Public Library. The library is named for two community leaders: Dr. George Augustus Weaver (1871-1939), a physician, surgeon, and educator who supported the education of black students in Tuscaloosa through use of his personal library, and Mrs. Ruth Bolden (1910–2004), the branch's founder and first librarian, and prominent local civil rights activist.
