Don't forget to stop by and see our Rangers as we head to the Longview Farm and Home Museum in Swainsboro TODAY to see memorabilia associated with the man our Park is named after, Mr. George L Smith II also known as Mr Speaker. The Emanuel County Historic Society is allowing us to join them in the celebration of the Country’s 250th anniversary this year with their Patriots’ Day celebration at the Longview Farm and Home Museum that sits across from the Jaycee Fairgrounds. 10AM until 4PM. The deadline is coming up for the Art Contest. We would love for a scene from our Park to be the subject of a students entry. The deadline for entry is October 31, 2026. Tell your talented students in grades 9-12 (2026-2027 school year) about this if you have not already!

I think our Park would be a beautiful place for students to paint and enter their work into the 2026 Art Contest. Please share with your student and/or your school's art teacher!

We were glad to have students and their family at the Park yesterday for cross country. Next meet is Thursday, October 8.

Fishing and paddling programs from yesterday plus the Mill House and the moon last night. The fish were not biting but tried to lure them in with some gold fish crackers. The cypress trees appear to be changing color a little bit with the temperatures being cooler. What a great day at our Park for Your State Parks Day! We had a great turn out and a few people arrived after the group photo. Thank you to the Georgia Power volunteers, Portal BETA Club volunteers, our Friends Group members who came and Friends President Gail Hutcheson Johnson for such great coordination for the day, a lot was accomplished. Thank you also to Coca Cola for water and powerade donated for the volunteers. Our Friends Group treated us to Double Town BBQ and snacks after we were done. I have added some before and after photos but you can not see all the dust and debris removed from inside the Mill House. Thank you all again for your help in making our Park one of the best!
