Yesterday, the Twin Falls Police Department was proud to participate in National Walk to School Day—an opportunity to celebrate safe routes to school, healthy habits, and the importance of community partnerships.

Members of our Patrol Division, Code Enforcement, and Animal Control joined our School Resource Officers as they walked with students on their way to school. Along the route, students had the chance to meet the people who help keep our neighborhoods, streets, and schools safe every day.

We were also grateful to have our partners from the Twin Falls Fire Department join us. Seeing police officers, firefighters, and city staff walking alongside students is a great reminder that school safety is a shared community effort.

A few reminders for everyone traveling near schools:
🔷Slow down and watch carefully for children at crosswalks and intersections.
🔷Obey school-zone speed limits and crossing guards.
🔷Avoid distractions—especially phones—while driving.
🔷Give yourself extra time during busy school arrival and dismissal periods.

Thank you to our students, families, schools, and community partners for making National Walk to School Day a success!

Today marks the first day of October and the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

After our first Breast Cancer Awareness patrol vehicle was retired, we are proud to debut its newest successor. This vehicle will soon join our regular patrol rotation, and you’ll begin seeing it throughout our community—on the streets, at community events, and during special outreach opportunities.

More than a patrol vehicle, this design serves as a visible reminder of the individuals and families affected by breast cancer. It honors survivors, remembers those we have lost, and supports everyone currently facing a diagnosis or supporting a loved one through their journey.

Throughout October, some members of our department will also honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink patches on their uniforms. These patches are a visible show of support for survivors, families, caregivers, and everyone impacted by this disease.

We encourage our community to recognize the importance of awareness, early detection, regular screenings, and support for those affected by breast cancer.

When you see our new patrol vehicle or a pink patch this month, we hope it serves as a reminder that no one fights alone. 💗

Officer-Involved Shooting Video Release

On April 29, 2026, officers attempted to take Colton Copeland Foster into custody on felony charges. During the incident, officers spent well over an hour attempting to communicate with Copeland and encourage him to safely exit the residence and comply with lawful directions.

Copeland later entered the backyard while armed with a knife. Officers gave him more than 40 commands to drop the knife. He then fled over a fence, where a police K-9 attempted to apprehend him and was injured. Copeland then moved aggressively toward officers while still holding the knife. An officer-involved shooting then occurred.

The incident was investigated by the Critical Incident Task Force, led by the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office. Once the investigation was complete, the evidence was submitted to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office for an independent review. The prosecutor determined that the involved officers’ actions were justified and declined to file criminal charges.

Following the prosecutor’s review, the department completed an internal administrative review. That review found that all officers involved acted within department policy.

With the independent criminal investigation, prosecutorial review, and internal policy review now complete, this matter is considered closed.

The video being released has been compiled to provide information about the events of that day. For sensitivity, the video and audio have been paused immediately before the shooting occurs. Viewer discretion is advised.

Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney Announces Resolution of Two Critical Incident Investigations

TWIN FALLS, Idaho — The Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has completed its review of two separate Critical Incident Task Force investigations involving officers of the Twin Falls Police Department.

The first review involved the April 29, 2026, officer-involved shooting of Colton J. Copeland. The investigation was conducted by the Critical Incident Task Force, led by the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office, and reviewed by the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. After reviewing police reports, body-worn camera and surveillance footage, medical and other evidence, the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office determined that the actions of the involved Twin Falls Police Officers were justified under the circumstances and declined to file any criminal charges.

The second review involved an August 1, 2026, use-of-force incident during the Canyon Park West mass shooting response. The investigation was conducted by the Jerome Police Department as part of the Critical Incident Task Force process. Following review of the investigation and available evidence, Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney Grant Loebs determined there was insufficient evidence to support criminal charges against the Twin Falls Police officer involved. Loebs concluded that the officer had a reasonable belief that he was acting in defense of civilians fleeing the active-shooter scene.

Accordingly, no criminal charges are warranted in either incident, and both prosecutorial reviews are considered complete.

The Twin Falls County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office appreciates the work of the independent investigative agencies and personnel involved in conducting thorough reviews of these critical incidents.
