South Central Public Health District South Central Public Health District is your local public health agency. Public health efforts began in south central Idaho in 1928.

All of Twin Falls County was experiencing an "infectious" meningitis epidemic. Hundreds of cases and many deaths resulted in a quarantine of the entire city of Twin Falls. The county commissioners developed the first area health unit consisting of three public health nurses and a sanitary inspector. Today, South Central Public Health District employs nearly 100 professionally trained nurses, dietitians, epidemiologists, dental hygienists, health educators, and environmental health specialists. South Central Public Health District was the leader in the multi-county concept of providing public health services. We have offices in Bellevue, Burley, Gooding, Jerome, and Twin Falls; and with part-time clinics in Shoshone and Rupert we serve all eight counties of south central Idaho and are part of a statewide system of seven public health districts. South Central Public Health District is governed by an eight-member Board of Health with a representative from each of the eight counties. Regular Board meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Exceptions occur depending on other scheduled activities of the Board and administration. Knowing the signs of breast cancer is an important first step, but early detection and regular screenings are just as important.

🎀 Know your normal. Become familiar with how your breasts look and feel so you can recognize changes.

🎀 Stay up to date on screenings. Mammograms can detect breast cancer before symptoms appear. Talk with your healthcare provider about when to begin screening and how often you should be screened based on your age, risk factors, and medical history.

🎀 Don’t ignore changes. If you notice a new lump, ni**le changes, unusual discharge, skin dimpling, or any other change, contact your healthcare provider, even if your last mammogram was normal.

🎀 Know your family history. Share your family history and any personal risk factors with your healthcare provider to help determine the screening plan that’s right for you.

🎀 Early detection starts with awareness. Share this reminder and help spread the word!

Early detection can make all the difference. 💗

Did you know that the 5-year relative survival rate for breast cancer is nearly 100% when it's detected before it spreads beyond the breast? When breast cancer has spread to distant parts of the body, that rate drops to approximately 34%.

These numbers are a powerful reminder of why early detection matters.

💕 This October, take action for your breast health:

🎀 Schedule your recommended mammogram.
🎀 Know what’s normal for your body and speak with your healthcare provider about any changes.
🎀 Understand your personal risk and discuss the right screening plan for you.
🎀 Encourage the people you love to prioritize their breast health, too.

While no screening can prevent every breast cancer death, finding cancer early can improve the chances of successful treatment.
