Our October Staff’s Favorite Series Is… Staff’s Favorite Owl Species πŸ¦‰

Jen (Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper): Snowy Owl

β€œIt is fun to hear my friend’s excitement when they spot one of these beautiful owls!”

πŸ¦‰Snowy Owls are diurnal, meaning they are awake during the day.
πŸ¦‰Snowy Owl migration is irruptive - their migration varies year to year based on food rather than following a seasonal schedule. They breed/spend summer in the arctic tundra, some owls will migrate south into southern Canada and into the northern United States if their primary food source (lemmings) population drops during the winter. Young owls are more likely to migrate whereas adults, especially females, are less likely to migrate.
