🌊 Stronger Together! 🇺🇸

Tybee Island Fire Rescue and Ocean Rescue were proud to assist U.S. Coast Guard Station Tybee with Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications for Guardsmen from Coast Guard stations throughout the area.

Whether we’re working side by side during water rescues or helping our partners strengthen their emergency response skills, we’re always happy to lend a hand!

Strong partnerships and continued training help ensure we’re ready to respond when our community needs us most.

A big thank you to our Coast Guard partners for all you do to keep our coastal communities safe! 💪🌊

Tybee Island Fire Rescue wants to profusely thank the Tybee Island American Legion Post 154 for once again honoring First Responders of the Year from both our Fire Department and Police Department. The honorees and the on-duty personnel who were able to attend were treated to a delicious dinner and a wonderful presentation of the awards. We are truly grateful for your continued support and recognition of the men and women who serve this island.

The Fire Department was proud to present Special Operations Captain Tadd Rubin for this award.

Captain Rubin has been with our department for less than a year, but he has hit the ground running and made significant strides for Ocean Rescue and the entire department. He brought our Ocean Rescue operations onto Watchtower software, which has improved our data reporting and strengthened the public education we are able to provide about beach and water conditions. Captain Rubin worked with our beach manager to update our Ocean Rescue Standard Operating Guidelines.

He is also spearheading the effort to get the Fire Department United States Lifesaving Association certified as we were a few years ago. As part of that work, he recently conducted our first Aquatic Rescue Response Team Class. This was an extremely demanding course, both mentally and physically, with mornings spent in the classroom and afternoons spent in the ocean. Because the class was voluntary for this pilot program, we were not sure how many of our people would show up. Nearly the entire department signed up. Only one member was unable to attend, and that was due to a scheduling conflict. That level of participation shows the complete buy-in our members have for the direction Captain Rubin is taking us.

He continues that work by leading swim and rescue technique training so the whole department is prepared to test and certify when the time comes. He is raising the standard, and our people are following him.

For these reasons and many more, Captain Rubin has been an excellent addition to Tybee Island Fire Rescue. We are very proud of him, and we are proud to have had the opportunity to present him for this recognition.

🚒🔥 Fire Safety at Burton 4-H Center! 🔥🚒

Tybee Island Fire Rescue had a great time visiting the Burton 4-H Center to provide their staff with a fire safety presentation focused on emergency planning and fire safety in a camp environment. 🧯🏕️

Our firefighters also coached the camp staff through the proper use of a fire extinguisher and making sure they are prepared to respond if an emergency occurs.

After the presentation, firefighters and camp staff had some fun sharing equipment, showing off their gear, and learning more about the different duties each group handles every day.

We appreciate the Burton 4-H Center staff for hosting us, being so welcoming and being so cool to work with!
