We are pleased to announce that the University of Texas at Tyler Police Department has achieved accreditation through the Texas Police Chief's Association Accreditation Program! What is TPCA Accreditation? The TPCA accreditation program, recognized as the Law Enforcement Agency Best Practices Accreditation Program, is intended to support police agencies in Texas in attaining and upholding high standards of professionalism and operational efficiency. This program was designed to assist agencies in complying with over 170 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices, encompassing crucial areas such as use of force, emergency vehicle operations, and evidence management.

Purpose and Benefits of Accreditation:

Enhancing Service Delivery: The accreditation process motivates agencies to embrace best practices that elevate the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement services.
Risk Reduction: By adhering to prescribed standards, agencies can mitigate risks linked with law enforcement operations and safeguard individual rights.
Professional Recognition: Achieving accreditation demonstrates that an agency meets or surpasses the criteria established by the TPCA, bolstering its credibility and fostering public trust.

The UT Tyler PD annual Toy Drive benefitting the Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County ends this Friday! Every toy makes a difference!

Officer Steve Petrovich served UT Tyler for 11 years prior to retiring in 2018, after serving a total of 34 years in law enforcement. Steve was a great officer who served the University of Texas at Tyler with integrity and professionalism. Steve was very well known to the students, staff, and faculty.

Steve passed away on November 11, 2024 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He will be dearly missed by his family, his law enforcement colleagues, and everyone who had the opportunity to know him.

Congratulations to Officer Colter Hazel on receiving the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers Outstanding Rookie Award for his efforts of keeping intoxicated drivers off of the roadways. Officer Hazel has performed numerous Driving While Intoxicated arrests in his first year of service. These arrests have taken place in the immediate vicinities of the UT Tyler campuses. His efforts have significantly contributed to the UT Tyler Police mission of keeping our campus communities safe. Lives are saved when intoxicated drivers are removed from behind the wheel! Well done Officer Hazel!

It's official, Patriots! Today, the UT System Board of Regents voted unanimously to name Julie V. Philley, MD, the next president of the University of Texas at Tyler! Philley, who currently serves the university as the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and Vice Provost, will begin her appointment on June 1, 2024.
