Through the Texas HB 3000 Grant Program, Wood County received a new UT Health East Texas EMS ambulance, helping ensure our crews have the resources they need to provide timely, high-quality emergency care across the county.

We’re grateful to Wood County Judge Kevin White, Commissioners Justin Bowring, Jerry Gaskill, Mike Simmons and Russell Acker and Fire Marshal Tully Davidson for their partnership throughout this process.

Congratulations to David Ingram, UT Health East Texas EMS September Employee of the Month!

A highly respected clinician, mentor and educator, David is committed to helping his patients, supporting his coworkers and shaping the next generation of EMS professionals. His leadership inspires students to deliver exceptional care and pursue excellence every day.

Recently, after finishing an overnight shift, David spent his own time helping a patient by mowing more than three acres, trimming trees, weed-eating and cleaning gutters. It's a powerful example of the compassion, selflessness and servant heart that define both David and the EMS profession.

Thank you, David, for going above and beyond for your patients, your students and our East Texas community. We are proud to have you on the team and grateful for the difference you make every day.

Every shift is an opportunity to learn, grow and see firsthand what compassionate patient care looks like at UT Health East Texas EMS.

Recently, UT Tyler School of Medicine student Lily Mansour, MS1, joined our EMS team for a ride-along and shared this reflection:

“I had a great shift with the team and learned so much from them. They did an incredible job teaching throughout the entire shift and were so welcoming and receptive to having a student along. The crews took the time to explain not only what they were doing, but also why they were doing it, making every patient encounter a valuable learning experience.

“By the end of the shift, I found myself thinking that if anyone in my family ever had an emergency, I would hope someone from UT Health East Texas EMS would be the ones responding to the call.

“Seeing them work firsthand gave me an even greater appreciation for prehospital medicine. It was inspiring to witness their level of dedication. Learning from the team on my very first shift made me even more excited about my future in medicine.”

Recently, UT Health East Texas EMS partnered with the Tyler Fire Department for continuing education and hands-on training designed to strengthen the skills, knowledge and teamwork our communities rely on every day.
When EMS and fire personnel train side-by-side, we build stronger relationships, enhance communication and improve coordination in the moments that matter most. The trust established in training translates directly to emergency scenes, helping us provide seamless, high-quality care when every second counts.

Members of UT Health East Texas EMS | AIR 1 proudly joined the East Texas Food Bank in observance of the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

As we remember the lives lost on September 11, our team spent the day packing food boxes for senior citizens across East Texas, helping ensure our neighbors have access to nutritious meals and the support they deserve.

Service is at the heart of everything we do, both on and off the ambulance. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside local fire departments, law enforcement agencies and community partners to give back in a meaningful way.
Together, we honor the spirit of 9/11 through compassion, service and commitment to our community.

When her mother suffered a seizure at home, 3-year-old Noemi "Emi" Vatavuk did something extraordinary. She stayed calm, called her grandparents, helped guide emergency responders to her apartment, unlocked the door for EMS crews and waited outside to help them find her mother. Her quick thinking and courage helped ensure her mom received the emergency care she needed.

This week, UT Health East Texas EMS honored Emi with a Certificate of Bravery and an EMS challenge coin, recognizing her remarkable actions during a frightening emergency. EMS responders also presented her with a special teddy bear in recognition of her heroism.

Caden leads by example through his compassion, dedication and unwavering commitment to patient care. Known for his positive attitude and strong work ethic, he consistently supports his teammates while delivering exceptional service to our community.

His partner described him as a natural leader who inspires those around him and always puts patients first. Even while finishing paramedic school, Caden continued to demonstrate the initiative, integrity and genuine desire to learn and serve that set great providers apart.
