🏡🐾 KEEP YOUR PETS HOME & SAFE!

Most lost pets don't plan on going on an adventure—but sometimes an open gate, broken fence, or unsecured door is all it takes.

Take a few minutes to check:

🔹 Gates and fences
🔹 Doors and windows
🔹 Collar and ID tags
🔹 Microchip information
🔹 Current pet licensing

A little prevention can save you a lot of worry!

The best lost-pet reunion is the one that never has to happen. ❤️

🔎 A LITTLE TAG CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE! 🐾

If your pet ever gets loose, a current ID tag can be the quickest way to get them safely back home.

Take a minute today to check:

✅ Is your pet wearing their ID tag?
✅ Is your phone number current?
✅ Is your address still correct?
✅ Is your pet's license current?

Microchips are also a great form of permanent identification—but a visible ID tag can help someone contact you right away.

Take a few minutes today to make sure your pets can find their way home. 🏡❤️

Lost pets can't call home. Make sure someone else can! 🐶🐱

🐾 BEFORE YOU ADOPT: ARE YOU READY? 🐾

Adopting a pet is an exciting and rewarding experience, but it’s also a long-term commitment. Before bringing a new furry friend home, take a moment to make sure you’re prepared! ❤️

🏠 Consider your living situation: Is your home suitable for the type and size of pet you’re considering?

💰 Think about the costs: Food, veterinary care, vaccinations, licensing, grooming, supplies, and unexpected medical expenses can add up.

⏰ Consider your time: Pets need daily exercise, attention, training, and companionship.

🐕 Choose the right match: Consider the animal’s age, size, energy level, temperament, and individual needs.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Think about your household: Make sure everyone in the home is prepared for the responsibility, including other pets.

❤️ Remember—it’s a lifetime commitment: Pets depend on us for their care and well-being throughout their lives.

Adoption can be one of the most rewarding decisions you make. Take your time, ask questions, and choose a pet that is the right fit for your family and your lifestyle.

🐾 Adopt responsibly. Love for a lifetime. ❤️

🐾 Dog vs. Human Bites: Important Reporting Information

Did you know that any time you seek medical care for an animal bite, whether at a hospital, clinic, urgent care, or doctor’s office, the provider is required by law to report it? This applies to all mammal bites, even if the injury seems minor. Reporting helps local health departments track potential rabies exposures and other infections, making it an essential part of keeping the community safe.

After a bite is reported, local health officials may follow up to determine whether the biting animal needs observation or quarantine and whether the person bitten needs further care. These steps ensure proper monitoring for diseases like rabies and help prevent future incidents.

🐾🔎 IF YOUR PET GOT LOST TODAY, COULD SOMEONE GET THEM HOME?

In Mendocino County, pets can wander surprisingly far—especially in rural areas where homes and properties may be spread out.

One of the simplest ways to protect your companion is to make sure they can be identified.

🏷️ Keep an ID tag on their collar.
📱 Make sure your phone number is current.
💻 Keep microchip information updated.
📸 Keep recent photos of your pet.
🚪 Check gates, fences, and doors regularly.

And don't wait until your pet disappears to make a plan.

A collar can come off. A phone number can change. A microchip is only helpful if the registration information is current.

Take a few minutes today to check your pet's identification.

Because if they ever get lost, the information you update today could be the reason they come home tomorrow. ❤️

🐾❤️ DON'T OVERLOOK THE GREY MUZZLES OF MENDOCINO COUNTY.

When people look for a new companion, puppies and kittens often get all the attention.

But somewhere in our shelters, rescues, and communities are older animals who have spent years giving love—and now need someone to give a little back.

Senior pets can be wonderful companions. They often have established personalities, enjoy a calmer lifestyle, and still have so much love to offer.

🐶 The older dog who still wants a walk.
🐱 The senior cat who wants a quiet lap.
🐾 The faithful companion who has spent years waiting for someone to choose them.

Age should never mean being forgotten.

If you're considering adding an animal to your family, take a moment to look at the senior pets who need homes, foster families, sponsors, or simply someone willing to share their story.

Their faces may be grey.

Their hearts are still full of love. ❤️

Give a senior pet a chance. You may find your greatest companion.

🌲🐾 MENDOCINO COUNTY: IF AN EMERGENCY HAPPENS, WILL YOUR ANIMALS BE READY?

Wildfires, earthquakes, power outages, and other emergencies can happen with little warning.

When we prepare our families, we need to prepare the animals who depend on us, too. ❤️

🎒 Keep an emergency kit for your pets.
💧 Store extra food and water.
📋 Keep vaccination and medical records somewhere easy to access.
🏷️ Make sure collars, ID tags, and microchip information are current.
🐶 Know where you can safely take your animals if you need to evacuate.
🚗 Have carriers, leashes, and other necessary equipment ready.
🤝 Make a plan with neighbors, friends, or family in case you're away when an emergency happens.

Never assume you'll have time to prepare after an evacuation order is given.

A few minutes of preparation today could save precious time when every second matters.

Our animals can't pack their own bags.
They can't make their own evacuation plans.
They depend on us.

🐾 Prepare now. Protect them later.

Let's make Mendocino County a community where no animal is left behind in an emergency.
