The Southern 7 Health Department has received information indicating Justin Potts has been installing septic systems without a license and without proper permitting. In Illinois, a private sewage disposal installation contractor license and permit are required for constructing, installing, repairing, modifying or maintaining private sewage disposal systems. These systems have also been installed not in compliance with the sewage code and can cause health and environmental hazards. If Justin Potts has installed, repaired, or modified a private sewage disposal system for you, please contact the Southern 7 Health Department at (618) 634-2297, extension 973130 or email [email protected]. You as the individual homeowner will not be held responsible for the installation of these illegal systems.

Breast cancer is most often found in women, but men CAN get breast cancer too. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is found in a man.

The most common kinds of breast cancer in men are:

Invasive ductal carcinoma. The cancer cells begin in the ducts and then grow outside the ducts into other parts of the breast tissue. Invasive cancer cells can also spread, or metastasize, to other parts of the body.

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a breast disease that may lead to invasive breast cancer. The cancer cells are only in the lining of the ducts, and have not spread to other tissues in the breast.

Talk to your doctor about your family history of cancer. If several members of your family have had breast or ovarian cancer, or one of your family members has a known BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation, share this information with your doctor.

๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’™ October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’™

Every October, we pause to remember the precious lives lost too soon and recognize the families who have experienced the heartbreak of pregnancy or infant loss.

October 2026 has been proclaimed Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in Illinois, reminding us of the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for grieving families.

At Southern Seven Health Department, we stand with families who have experienced loss and remain committed to promoting healthy pregnancies, supporting parents, and connecting families with the resources they need.

October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Families and communities are encouraged to participate in the Wave of Light by lighting a candle at 7 p.m. in remembrance of babies gone too soon.

To every family carrying the memory of a little one: You are not alone. Your loss matters, and your baby will always be remembered. ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’™

October is SIDS Awareness Month

Every baby deserves a safe place to sleep.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden, unexplained death of a baby younger than one year old that remains unexplained after a thorough investigation.

While not every case of SIDS can be prevented, following safe sleep recommendations can help reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related infant deaths.

Remember the ABCs of Safe Sleep:

๐Ÿ’œ A โ€“ ALONE: Babies should sleep in their own sleep space, without pillows, blankets, toys, or bumpers.

๐Ÿ’œ B โ€“ BACK: Always place your baby on their back for every sleep, including naps.

๐Ÿ’œ C โ€“ CRIB: Use a safety-approved crib, bassinet, or play yard with a firm, flat mattress and fitted sheet.

This October, help us spread awareness and share safe sleep practices. A simple reminder could help protect a little life.
