The City of Union City joins family, friends, and community members in mourning the passing of former Councilmember Pat Gacoscos, who passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Pat Gacoscos leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, compassion, and community leadership. First elected to the Union City Council in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018, Pat dedicated years of public service to strengthening connections within Union City and beyond.

Pat was instrumental in the formation of Union City Friends of Sister Cities, helping foster friendship, cultural understanding, and meaningful partnerships between communities around the world. Her belief in the power of people-to-people connections touched countless lives and helped build a stronger, more connected community.

The City extends its deepest condolences to Pat’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who were impacted by her life and service.

In honor of Pat’s legacy, the City flag has been lowered to half-mast for the remainder of the week.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

This year’s theme, “More Good Days, Together,” reminds us that healing, hope, and well-being are strengthened through connection, compassion, and community.

Mental health is an important part of overall health and well-being. This month is a reminder to check in with ourselves and with one another, show compassion, and help break the stigma surrounding mental health.

Whether it’s taking time to rest, reaching out to a friend, seeking support, or simply starting a conversation-every step toward caring for mental health matters.

If you or someone you know could benefit from support, take the first step and explore local resources available in our community. Visit the City’s Social Services webpage to connect with counseling, food assistance, housing resources, senior services, and other supportive programs www.unioncityca.gov/234/Social-Services
