Debate from last night
DAVENPORT, Iowa – Zach Lahn walked into Iowa’s first gubernatorial debate and absolutely dismantled the persona that Rob Sand spent his career building on national television, in the most devastating, lopsided debate in the history of the Iowa Governor’s Race.
Hosted by KWQC, the matchup was the opening of 4 scheduled debates. Lahn repeatedly pressed Sand on his favorite “part-time Iowan” line, explaining how he maintains a Kansas home tied to a blended family and school-age children. His response is now going viral online, with many saying it essentially “ended Rob Sand’s campaign.”

Lahn then called Sand a part-time auditor, and directed viewers to his new website, NoShowRob.com, where his campaign says a whistleblower documented Sand missing roughly half his days in office. The site’s traffic went up immediately.
In his closing argument, he exposed the fact that Rob Sand was only on stage because he outspent his last opponent 30-to-1 and “bought an election,” and is now trying to buy the governorship with the largest family donations in Iowa history ($13 million). Sand’s own closing argument labeled Lahn a “change of address candidate,” while claiming credit for locking up corrupt politicians.
Voters didn’t hold back from sharing their blunt opinions online, especially on Twitter. User stated it was “unlike anything (he’s) ever seen.” User said that Sand got a “very sincere reality check.” User said that Sand’s Staffers “need to prep him better next time.” Many said how it looked like Rob Sand was on the verge of crying.
The beatdown was so bad that people are now questioning the validity of the polls. Tonight, it was made clear that a lead built up by family money and a fake persona cannot stand, as it will never survive contact with a real stage. The next gubernatorial debate will be on Wednesday, October 14, at 7 PM CST, hosted by KTIV in Lahn’s hometown of Sioux City, Iowa.
