FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCAL AUTHOR CARMAN RENEE JONES TO LAUNCH DEBUT BOOK, IN YOUR PRESENCE, ON 60TH BIRTHDAY AT UNION PUBLIC LIBRARY

UNION, MS — The Union Public Library will host a hometown book signing and birthday celebration for debut author Carman Renee Jones on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The event marks both the release of her contemporary fiction debut, In Your Presence: A Story of Faith and Second Chances, and Jones's 60th birthday.

Jones grew up in Union and spent much of her childhood inside the Union Public Library. She wrote her first book five decades later, between fares, driving rideshare at night in Nashville.

Set against the neon-blurred backdrop of Nashville, Tennessee, In Your Presence peels back the skin of maternal devotion to reveal the bone underneath. The story follows Carman, a sixty-year-old rideshare driver working twenty-hour days through an economic and medical crisis she cannot afford to name, as she navigates the fracturing relationships with her grown children — her daughter, Beth, carrying years of unspoken family grief, and her son, Adrian, gone silent at an overseas military base.

Blending working-class realism with a journey of spiritual surrender, the book explores the heavy arithmetic of modern isolation and what happens when we finally choose to let ourselves be held.

"Hosting this launch at my hometown library on my 60th birthday is incredibly meaningful," says Jones. "That library was my refuge as a child. This book is about the quiet spaces between family members, the burdens we carry in isolation, and the second chances that find us when we finally drop our armor. I can't think of a better place to share this story than the community that shaped me."

The launch will feature a live reading by the author, a Q&A on family, hyper-independence and generational healing, and a book signing. Refreshments will be served in honor of the author's 60th birthday.

Books will be available for purchase at the event. Admission is free and the public is warmly invited to attend.

🏗️📚 DeKalb Library Renovation Update!

Progress is looking GREAT in DeKalb! We’re excited to see everything coming together as work continues on the building. There’s still work to be done, but it’s already exciting to see the vision taking shape!

We truly believe this is going to be a beautiful building, and we can’t wait to see the finished product. Most of all, we’re looking forward to welcoming our community back inside and seeing this space filled with books, learning, and activity once again.

Our goal is to welcome everyone back in 2027! ❤️

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to opening the doors again. We can’t wait to share what’s coming next!

❤️ A QUICK NOTE ABOUT FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS! ❤️

First, we want to say how much we appreciate every single donation to our food pantry. Your generosity helps us serve our community, and we are truly grateful!

That being said, we have one small but important request: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let us know if you're donating fresh fruit! 🍎🍊🍌

Donations aren't always sorted the same day they're dropped off, and fresh fruit can spoil if it sits in a bag for too long before being discovered.

You absolutely CAN donate fresh fruit! We just ask that you tell a staff member what's in the bag when you drop it off so we can make sure it gets taken care of properly.

Thank you for your generosity, your understanding, and for helping us make the most of every donation! ❤️

📚 LIBRARY MATH: IT NEVER ADDS UP. 📚

“I’m just going to get ONE book.”

One mystery. 🕵️
Two romances. ❤️
That book with the gorgeous cover and sprayed edges. 👀
The one you saw on Facebook and immediately added to your TBR. 📖
Three books for the kids. 🧒

And somehow, you’re walking out with an armful of books wondering if you should’ve brought a bigger bag. 😂🛍️

The good news? Library books are FREE. The bad news? There’s always room for one more. 🤷‍♀️📚

Be honest… how many books do you actually leave the library with? 👇

📚⛺ Camp Read S’more at Union Public School District! 🍫🔥

**Edit: We had 40 Library Card forms filled out.**

We were honored to be invited to attend Camp Read S’more at Union Public School District! It was such a humbling experience to return to the very school I graduated from and see so many children excited about literacy, books, and reading.

There’s something special about coming full circle and being able to share your love of reading with the next generation. Seeing those young readers excited about books was a wonderful reminder of why literacy and access to libraries matter so much.

Thank you for inviting us to be part of such a meaningful event! Here’s to growing a love of reading, one book (and one s’more) at a time! ❤️📖

✨ We had so much fun welcoming our Pre-K friends to the library for a little science, music, and creativity! 📚💛

The kids enjoyed dancing along to Danny Go!, lighting up the room with their glow sticks, and creating their very own sensory bottles to take home! 🌟🧪

We love seeing little minds explore, imaginations grow, and a love for learning come to life through fun, hands-on activities! Thank you to our Pre-K friends for visiting us. We can’t wait to have you back at the library! 🥰📚✨
