TRAFFIC ADVISORY: ROUTE 190 CLOSURE – OCTOBER 16, 2026
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) has advised that drainage pipe replacement work near house number 140 Route 190 in Stafford is scheduled to begin the weekend of Saturday, October 17.

The closure will occur just after Rockwell Road when traveling east on Route 190 toward the Town of Union. Route 190 will be closed to through traffic for approximately two days while the pipe is replaced.

During the closure, motorists should follow the CTDOT posted detour using Route 32, Interstate 84, and Route 89 to travel around the work area.

Once the pipe replacement is completed, Route 190 will reopen to alternating one-way traffic while the remaining work is finished.

Electronic message boards advising motorists of the upcoming closure have already been installed.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and follow the posted detour signs. We appreciate everyone's patience while CTDOT completes this necessary infrastructure improvement.

On this night 25 years ago:
246 people went to sleep knowing they had a flight in the morning.
2,606 people went to sleep before work in the morning.
343 firefighters went to sleep in preperation to protect the city and its citizens from emergencies and rescue those in distress.
23 NYPD police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol.
37 PAPD police officers went to sleep in preparation for their morning patrols at NY's tunnels, bridges, and at the World Trade Center complex

None of them saw past 10:28am on Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life would never be the same for thousands of people, their families, friends, and strangers.

Isaiah 6:8 And I heard the voice of God say, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I answered, “I am here Lord. I will go!”

406 1st Responders who answered that call tomorrow would never return.

Tonight before you go to sleep, to honor those who perished, please consider making the decision to never take one second of your life for granted.
Be kind.
Love intensely.
Work hard.
Volunteer.
Make every day count.

God bless those who perished and those that continue to fall due to 9/11 illnesses.

God bless their families and friends

🚒 It’s been a BUSY week here at the Union Volunteer Fire Department!🚒

For our little department, this has been one of those weeks that reminds us just how much our volunteers are called upon to do.

We started the week with a propane tank that had a tree fall on it, shifting it off its base. From there, our members responded to three medical calls throughout the week, followed by a motorcycle vs. car accident on I-84 where LifeStar was requested to transport the patient to the hospital.

Then, just a couple of hours later, our members were called back out to a car fire on I-84.

And as if that wasn't enough, we had another medical call in town this morning.

That’s a propane tank incident, three medical calls, a serious motor vehicle accident, a car fire, and another medical call — all in just one week.

For a small department like ours, that’s a lot of calls in a very short amount of time.

Behind every one of those calls are volunteers who leave their homes, families, jobs, hot meals, and whatever else they may be doing to answer the call when their community needs them. They do it without hesitation and without expecting anything in return.

❤️ We are incredibly proud of our members and grateful for their dedication.

And to our mutual aid departments, dispatchers, LifeStar, and all of the other agencies who work alongside us — thank you for always being there when we need you.

Most importantly, thank you to the residents of Union for continuing to support your volunteer fire department. Your support means more than you know.

🚒 Small department. Big commitment. Always ready to answer the call. ❤️

Please remember to give our volunteers a little extra patience and appreciation when you see those flashing lights and hear those sirens. They’re on their way to help someone who needs them.

🚒 Training Today: Agricultural Extrication 🚜

Today our crews participated in hands-on extrication training involving an overturned tractor. We worked through a couple of different scenarios and practiced several different lifting techniques to safely stabilize the equipment and gain access to the patient.

Training included the use of air bags, struts, cribbing, and other stabilization equipment, allowing our firefighters to practice different approaches and techniques depending on the situation.

You may also notice in some of the pictures that training isn’t just about the rescue itself. Our crews took time to rest, hydrate, and critique each scenario after the rescue. Reviewing what went well, what could be improved, and how we can work more efficiently is an important part of every training session.

Hands-on training like this keeps our firefighters prepared for the unique challenges we may face when responding to agricultural incidents in our community.

Train hard. Stay ready. Take care of each other. Serve our community. 🚒💪💧
