Putnam County E-911 reminds everyone that scammers may pretend to be your bank and even make your bank’s actual phone number appear on caller ID. Do not assume a call is legitimate just because the number looks familiar!
We have been receiving reports of individuals being contacted by “their bank” wanting them to protect their account or that there has been a major withdraw of money recently done
If you receive a suspicious call:
1. Hang up. Do not provide personal or banking information.
2. Do not share passwords, PINs, or verification codes, or transfer money. Also please remember to not give your social security number or date of birth to someone contacting you
3. Call your bank directly using the number on the back of your bank card or an official bank statement.
4. Report the incident to your bank if you believe your information may have been compromised.
‼️Remember: Caller ID can be faked! When in doubt, hang up and verify.‼️
And as always, if someone you know does not have Facebook, please contact them and make sure they are aware of this information help educate each-other on how to protect yourself from scams!
