2,977 FLAGS. 2,977 LIVES. WE REMEMBER.
Tonight, nearly 3,000 American flags were placed in SVSU’s Central Courtyard… one for each of the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001.
Military Student Affairs is incredibly grateful to the students, staff, and volunteers who came together to create this display. This was a new project for all of us, and even as we made adjustments along the way, our volunteers never lost sight of why they were there.
When the final flag was placed, our student staff took a few quiet moments to look across the completed field. The scale is powerful but even more powerful is remembering that every flag represents a person. A life. A family forever changed.
Tomorrow marks 25 years since September 11, 2001. For many in our campus community, it is a day they remember vividly. For many of our students, it is history that occurred before they were born. Our responsibility to remember, reflect, and help the next generation understand its significance remains.
We invite the SVSU community to join us tomorrow at the Bell Tower at 8:46 a.m. for a university-wide moment of silence.
Cardinals Remember Through Service will continue throughout the day and this weekend with opportunities to **Remember. Learn. Serve.**
Tonight, the flags speak for themselves.
We remember.
