On site today checking in on the transformation of this existing barn into a 3-bed guesthouse. Notable moments so far: the timber vault, geometrically perfect clerestory window, and those cedar shingles.

Throughout the day, the cabin’s metal cladding transforms with the sky, taking on new tones as the light shifts. The entrance, a golden glowing oak door, beckons you inside. Beyond, the cedar-clad sauna welcomes you with gentle heat and a sense that the world is beginning to slow. Here you sit before an extra-large square glazing, letting the warmth envelop you as you gaze east across the water. Outside, the sound of waves on the shoreline mixes with birdsongs drifting through the trees, creating a soundtrack for reflection and presence.

“Good architecture, good buildings, don’t have a front or a back. Every side of the building matters.”

A busy road on one side, a serene lake on the other. How do we work with the constraints and features of a site to create architecture that feels like a natural extension of its environment?

Join Erling Berg , Design Director, for a site visit and hear the design philosophy behind the work in progress.

The original timber structure is preserved while expansive openings frame the sweeping views of western Massachusetts. A thoughtful remodel where history, architecture, and the landscape quietly coexist.

Work in progress.
