Over the past few days, EMS call volume has increased significantly, at times leaving no ambulances available across the region.
This is largely due to a high number of flu-related cases, both by ambulance and hospital walk-ins. Emergency rooms are overwhelmed, causing long delays for ambulance crews to clear and return to service. Several ERs are at or near capacity.
Please keep in mind:
• Going by ambulance does not mean you will be seen faster. Patients are treated based on severity, and some ambulance patients are still sent to the waiting room.
• Many flu symptoms can be treated at home with rest and fluids. Call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, or other serious symptoms.
• For flu-related care, your primary doctor, urgent care, or a clinic may be a faster and more appropriate option.
Hospitals and EMS crews are extremely busy, and everyone is doing their best to serve the community.
