In today’s episode of “But ChatGPT Said…”
It has come to our attention that artificial intelligence has begun offering guidance regarding document recording requirements, however, we regret to inform everyone that ChatGPT is not currently employed by our office.
While we appreciate ChatGPT’s enthusiasm for county government, it has not been appointed Deputy Clerk, has not completed Recorder’s Manual training, and perhaps most importantly, it cannot overrule New Jersey recording requirements simply because it delivered the (wrong) answer with tremendous confidence.
ChatGPT has not read our Recorder’s Manual with us.
It does not sit at the recording counter.
It will not be joining us when we have to explain why your document cannot be recorded.
At this time, unfortunately, “ChatGPT said it was fine” remains an insufficient statutory basis for recording a document.
Should this change, we assume AI will notify us.
So for now, to find out about the actual recording requirements, please contact our office with questions. We are much less exciting than AI, but considerably more accountable for the answer. We are here M-F from 8am–4:30pm. 908-475-6211.
Sincerely,
The humans who actually have to record the document 😂
PS - This is not the space to debate the good, the bad, or the ugly of AI.
PPS - Yes, we used AI to create the image, which it did perfectly, unlike providing recording advice, lol.
