As we close out Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we want to uplift thoughts from The 19th News' own Editor-at-Large Errin Haines which provides an analysis on how high the stakes are for women in movements.
"Throughout history, women like Huerta have held what movements could not: the harm, the silence, the cost," writes Haines.
In March, NWPC CA provided a statement of support for survivors of Cesar Chavez.
"Men are not gods.
Far too often society expects women to be silent about their abuse - to sacrifice themselves for the “greater good”. Women tear themselves apart physically, literally, and figuratively for others. We honor the survivors who have come forward and know that where there is one (or in this case: 3) there are surely usually more.
We stand with the survivors who have carried this pain for decades."
Analysis | Dolores Huerta has long been a champion for women using their voices to speak truth to power. But her silence on Cesar Chavez is a reminder of the stakes for women in movements.
