📣Reminder- TODAY October 24th!

The Decatur Township Drug Free Coalition, Decatur Township School Police Department, and Kroger are partnering to host a DEA National Rx Takeback Event on October 24th. Bring your unwanted or unused medication to Kroger on Kentucky Avenue to be disposed of properly at this free, anonymous event. No questions asked. No liquids needles or inhalers will be accepted.

The Decatur Central High School food pantry, coordinated by Communities In Schools Site Coordinator Mattie Hurt and team, serves approximately 100–125 families each month through a partnership with Gleaners Food Bank.

With support from teachers Ms. Burks, Ms. Hannenson, and Ms. Carrender, junior class Choice Academy students help organize food, prepare bags, and assist with distribution, gaining valuable experience in service and leadership.

This meaningful partnership is helping remove barriers for families while giving students an opportunity to make a difference in their own community!

From elementary through high school, Decatur Township students are exploring coding, engineering, teamwork, and problem-solving through VEX Robotics clubs! Under the districtwide coordination of Doug Bagg, students are busy designing, building, and testing their robots in preparation for friendly competitions later this year. It's another great way our students are developing skills for future success!

It’s School Bus Safety Week! Keeping students safe on the road includes being prepared for the unexpected. Twice each year, our students and bus drivers practice bus evacuation drills to ensure everyone knows how to safely and quickly exit a bus in an emergency. We also thank our community for helping keep students safe by stopping for school buses when the stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing. Thank you to our Transportation team and community for making school bus safety a priority every day!

The Girl Boss program at Stephen Decatur Elementary, led by Communities In Schools Site Coordinators Laverna Tracy and Christina Morgan, is helping students build confidence and develop important life skills!

Through engaging discussions and activities, students learn about kindness, positive choices, and finding their voice. As sixth grader Camila Cruz shares, Girl Boss is about “learning life lessons and how to be confident in yourself.”

A similar program, Brothers Helping Brothers, provides opportunities for fifth- and sixth-grade boys to grow and connect.

Synchronous eLearning Days: Live meetings with teachers

✅️ Each school will share their synchronous schedule.
✅️ K-12 students will use Google Meet to meet live with their teacher through a link provided by the teacher.
✅️ Lesson information like Google Meet meeting link and assignments will be available in Canvas.
✅️ Students are to attend the Google meeting, be on time and ready to interact and participate.
✅️ Grades K-6 teachers will provide 150 minutes of live instruction through Google Meet, 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
✅️ Grades 7-12 teachers will provide 180 minutes of live instruction through Google Meet, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
✅️ Attendance is based on work completion and meeting attendance.
