Kindness goes a long way.. After seeing the needs of many I can't help but wonder if we can do more.. The free produce that was offered last week helped so many. A free head of cabbage. A box full of plums. Many wondered if there would be more.
Not because it was free.
But it was available.
I spoke to a family who's garden was wiped out from the hard rain and tornadoes less than a week before. I plucked green beans from our community garden to give to a wife to cook for her husband who wasn't in good health. A mother of 2 asked if there would be more free produce at the next market because it was too expensive to shop for healthy food at Walmart.
These conversations stay with you.
They remind us that a community garden isn't just about growing vegetables.
It's about growing hope.
It's about making sure a child has fresh tomatoes for dinner, an elderly neighbor has vegetables for soup, or a family going through a difficult season doesn't have to choose between paying bills and eating healthy.
That is why we're working so hard to secure the former laundromat property.
Our vision is bigger than a market. We see a permanent community hub where fresh produce can be washed, stored, refrigerated, and made available throughout the week—not just on market day. A place where local growers can sell their harvest, where youth can learn leadership and entrepreneurship, where healthy cooking classes can be offered, and where neighbors come together to support one another.
This isn't about one growing season.
It's about creating something that will serve New Matamoras for years to come.
Every partnership, every volunteer, every donation, and every person who believes in this vision helps move us one step closer.
Because when a community comes together, kindness doesn't just go a long way...
It grows into something that can change lives.
🌱 Together, we're growing more than a garden. We're growing a stronger, healthier community.
