As we approach the end of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we are highlighting one amazing person as the Employee of the Month! Troy has been working at his job longer than any other individual served with an incredible 35 years at Chief Supermarket. Since starting in 1991, Troy’s workplace has undergone many changes, including a name change from Rays Supermarkets to Chief Supermarket after the original store’s location closure. Although Troy has seen many changes over the years, one thing remains the same; his commitment to his career. Troy’s helpful nature, friendliness, reliability and sense of humor have helped him become a valuable employee.

Troy’s advice to those wanting to achieve long-term employment is to stay focused on your work and stay off your cell phone to ensure you get the job done and interact with customers and coworkers effectively. Troy also plans to continue working until he reaches retirement age, so we look forward to presenting his 40-year award in 2031. Troy doesn’t have retirement plans quite yet, but they might include karaoke as he loves to sing and even won Marimor Idol in 2010.

Congratulations, Troy, on 35 years of employment, and thank you, Chief Supermarket, for being an inclusive employer.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting was held this afternoon for the accessible family restroom at the All Ability Playground! This restroom features a drinking fountain and universal changing table, all safely enclosed within the fencing of the playground. This facility removes a barrier and creates a space where children of all abilities can play, participate, and enjoy time with their families with greater comfort, dignity, and independence.

We cannot thank the Marimor Legacy Foundation enough for helping to make this dream a reality, as well as all of the incredible donors who funded this project. Their contribution is evidence of their belief in the importance of creating a community where everyone belongs. Thank you to the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce for taking the time to come out today for the ribbon cutting.

Have you ever wondered where else you can find accessible restrooms with universal changing tables? Visit the Changing Spaces Campaign website at this link for all the details: https://www.changingspacescampaign.com/

Recently, like other community and partner agencies, the Board experienced the heartbreaking loss of one of our Board members, Chad King. Chad was a devoted husband and father whose kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to advocating for individuals with developmental disabilities left a lasting impact on the Board. He is greatly missed by all of us.

Chad’s second Board member term was scheduled for 2026-2029, and so his wife, Michelle, made the decision to finish his term. She was sworn in at last night’s Board meeting by Commissioner Noonan. We are grateful to Michelle for her willingness to continue this important work, and we know Chad’s spirit will remain a meaningful part of the Board as we carry forward the mission he cared so deeply about.
