Sunday Night Fire Displaces Nine - Altercation Leads to Arrest

Front Royal, VA – Just before 9:30 PM Sunday night, Warren County Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the 200 block of Cloud Street in Front Royal for a reported dwelling fire.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes to discover a two-story townhome style duplex with visible smoke and significant fire coming from the rear of one of the units. While deploying hose lines, crews encountered multiple subjects having a physical altercation in the street and multiple subjects around the home.

Firefighters requested law enforcement assistance and immediately initiated fire suppression operations while searching both units to ensure all occupants had escaped.

Crews encountered challenging conditions due to the building’s older style construction which allowed fire to spread throughout the concealed spaces and attic system of the building. Emergency personnel operated on the scene for approximately five hours. One occupant was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A total of nine residents from both units were displaced as a result of the fire and received assistance from the American Red Cross.

To maintain emergency response coverage throughout the incident, personnel from Fire Station 10 (North Warren) and Fire Station 3 (South Warren) were relocated to Fire Station 1 (Front Royal). These personnel provided fire and EMS coverage for the duration of the incident, ensuring continued emergency response capabilities while crews remained committed to fireground.

The Warren County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Town of Front Royal Police Department Criminal Investigations Division were on the scene to investigate the physical altercation and origin and cause of the fire incident. Two people were arrested and charged in connection with the altercation, the fire investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warren County Fire Marshal’s Office at (540)636-3830.

Fit for a King: Sharing Local Lessons on a Statewide Stage 🚒👑

Assistant Fire Chief Gerry Maiatico and Assistant Fire Marshal / Captain Austin Cucciardo recently represented Warren County Fire and Rescue at the 2026 Virginia Fire Prevention Association (VFPA) Fall Training Conference in Lynchburg, Virginia.

They were honored to deliver a special presentation titled “Special Event Planning Fit for a King!”, which offered fire and life safety leaders from across the Commonwealth an inside look at the operational planning, interagency coordination, and key takeaways from the Royal Visit to the Front Royal community earlier this year.

The presentation broke down the operational planning, crowd control logistics, and rapidly evolving demands of the visit. Chief Maiatico and Captain Cucciardo emphasized how seamless communication, thorough preparation, and strong teamwork were essential to keeping the community safe throughout this high-stakes event.

We are proud to see our department’s experiences and personnel contributing to the training and readiness of emergency services statewide!

🚒 As Fire Prevention Week Comes to a Close: Every Day is Fire Safety Day! 🔥

As we wrap up Fire Prevention Week, Warren County Fire and Rescue Services wants to remind our entire community that fire safety doesn't end when the week does—every day is fire safety day!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to join us at our Fire Prevention Week Kickoff event this past Saturday! Even with the damp weather, seeing our community show up to learn, engage, and connect meant the world to our crews.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to all our dedicated community partners who stood alongside us to spread critical safety education throughout Warren County. Fire prevention is a true team effort, and your support keeps our neighborhoods protected.

Quick reminders to keep your home and family safe year-round:

🔋 Test smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
🚪 Practice your home escape plan so everyone knows two ways out of every room.
🧯 Keep space heaters and open flames at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn as cooler weather approaches.
🛑 Close before you doze—shutting bedroom doors at night helps slow the spread of smoke and heat.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep Front Royal and Warren County safe.

Stay safe, stay vigilant!

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray
table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never
charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails,
it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly. For more
