What a fun time at today’s Red Bluff Treat Street! 🎃

Our TCDE Early Learning, Continuous Improvement, Foster & Homeless Youth, and Bridge to College & Career teams had a great time handing out candy at Cone & Kimball Plaza and admiring all the amazing costumes. We also loved being able to share books for readers of all ages! In both English and Spanish! 📚

Making books accessible helps nurture a love of reading, support language development, and build strong literacy skills—one story at a time.

A big thank-you to the Red Bluff Kiwanis Club for including us and organizing a safe, fun Halloween celebration for families! 🍬👻

🌱📚 Learning, collaboration, and growth!

The Tehama County Department of Education recently hosted a two-day Count Play Explore (CPE) training in collaboration with our Continuous Improvement and Early Childhood Education departments.

Educators and early learning professionals from across California’s Far North came together to strengthen practices and share strategies that support children from birth through third grade. The training also helped build connections among the people who nurture children’s growth during these important foundational years.

By investing in our educators and learning together, we’re helping create a stronger foundation for lifelong learning for children and families in our region.

A Glimpse into the TCDE Student Success Playbook: Priority #4

The fourth of five priorities in the Tehama County Department of Education’s 2026–2027 Student Success Playbook is Operating High-Quality Programs Serving Students in Specialized Settings.

Students thrive when their education and supports reflect their individual strengths and needs. High-quality programs can help students build academic skills, communication, independence, and well-being—while creating pathways to belonging, graduation, and success beyond school.

This priority brings together six areas of work:

✅ Extensive Needs Regional Programs: Support learning, communication, well-being, independence, and transitions to adulthood for students with extensive support needs.

✅ Special Education in Small Districts: Work with local educational agencies (LEAs) to expand access to services, strengthen regional programs, and provide technical assistance.

✅ Early Learning Special Education: Provide early intervention and preschool services, support timely identification, promote inclusive learning, and strengthen transitions to school.

✅ SELPA Leadership: Provide governance, funding oversight, technical assistance, data support, and collaboration to help member districts deliver high-quality special education services.

✅ Juvenile Court School: Support academic continuity, credit recovery, career skills, mental health, and successful transitions back to school and community.

✅ Alternative Education: Strengthen charter oversight and alternative pathways, coordinate support for at-risk and expelled youth, and explore new models to meet student needs.

Follow along as we highlight the work behind each 2026–2027 priority and share how TCDE is turning the Student Success Playbook into meaningful action.

Yesterday, the Tehama County Department of Education welcomed Rachel Shaw of ShawHR Consulting to present a North Valley Schools Insurance Group’s ADA/FEHA Disability Compliance Training to HR representatives from districts across our county.

Rachel’s presentation, “Beyond the Hallway,”explored real-world disability management in workers’ compensation and HR—practical knowledge that helps strengthen workplace support, compliance, and HR capacity across our county.

This work supports TCDE’s commitment to cultivating a high-performing workforce through competitive compensation, professional development, and a culture that promotes retention. It also advances countywide HR collaboration through a dedicated listserv, two annual professional development meetings focused on legislative updates, labor law, and operational best practices, and ongoing technical assistance and mentorship for district personnel.

When school staff are supported and districts have the HR knowledge and resources to meet their responsibilities, they’re better positioned to provide stable, supportive learning environments where students can thrive.

Thank you to Rachel Shaw, Keenan & Associates, and everyone who joined us in investing in stronger HR practices and student success.

It’s School Bus Safety Week, and we’re celebrating our amazing transportation team and bus drivers!

Across Tehama County, this dedicated team helps keep students and staff moving safely. They maintain 60 vehicles used by Tehama County Department of Education staff, helping staff get safely to their destinations and provide important services, along with 10 buses and two vans that support transportation for students with special needs throughout the county.

In collaboration with the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), they help provide reliable, efficient special education transportation so students across all member districts can access the services they need. They also help districts and SELPA coordinate logistics, address barriers, and meet state transportation requirements.

Reliable transportation is an important part of student success. When students can get to school safely and consistently, they’re better able to attend, participate, build connections, and make the most of their learning opportunities.

Thank you to our transportation team and bus drivers for helping students get where they need to go, supporting their success, and helping our staff serve the community!

Did you know Tehama County has an Industrial Maintenance Apprenticeship Program?

The Industrial Maintenance Apprenticeship Program is a collaborative effort brought forth by the Tehama County CTE Coalition, where resources, funding, and efforts through the Job Training Center, Tehama County Department Bridge to College and Career, and Expect More Tehama are braided together to ensure the project’s ongoing sustainability and growth.

Last week’s Apprenticeship Dinner celebrated the students currently participating in the program. Apprentices and their employers shared the program’s successes and highlighted the training each student has completed—showing how strong partnerships support student achievement and career readiness.

Congratulations to our apprentices and their employers:

🔹Lanae Moore — Crain Walnut
🔹Alexander Gonzales Valladeres — RBHS Maintenance
🔹Adrian Pablo — PJ Helicopters
🔹Vidal Gomez Anaya— Bell Carter

The dinner also invited other local employers to explore ways to get involved, whether by serving on an advisory group or hiring an apprentice. These partnerships help students connect their education to real-world opportunities and build a strong foundation for future success.

Thank you to all the students, employers, and partners helping prepare the next generation of our local workforce!

A Glimpse into the TCDE Student Success Playbook: Priority #3

Strong, reliable operations make a difference.

Priority #3 in the Tehama County Department of Education’s 2026–2027 Student Success Playbook focuses on robust operational support, technical assistance, and advocacy for rural schools.

This priority brings together seven areas of work:

✅ Human resources and workforce development — Supporting recruitment, credential compliance, staff retention, and collaboration among district HR teams.

✅ Fiscal monitoring and oversight — Helping districts make sustainable financial decisions and align resources with student achievement goals.

✅ Payroll, accounts payable, and receivables — Strengthening the accuracy, efficiency, and transparency of financial processes.

✅ Technology infrastructure and services — Providing IT support, cybersecurity guidance, and data assistance, while creating opportunities for districts to share expertise.

✅ Facilities maintenance and construction — Caring for TCDE’s 18 facilities, planning improvements, and completing new regional special education facilities near Ge**er School.

✅ Safe home-to-school transportation — Working with the SELPA and member districts to support reliable, compliant transportation for students with special education needs.

✅ State and federal advocacy — Championing students and the unique needs of rural schools in a nonpartisan, non-ideological way.

Together, these efforts strengthen the systems and partnerships that support schools—and student success—across Tehama County.

Follow along as we highlight the work behind each 2026–2027 priority and share how TCDE is putting its Student Success Playbook into action.
