💛 Harvest Hope for Hunger: Honoring Emily Montgomery

In 2020, Emily Montgomery lost her life to domestic violence, a loss our Apex community continues to feel.

Thanksgiving was Emily’s favorite holiday. In her memory, her son Greyson and her mother Amy Montgomery collect food donations for InterAct, which supports survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The Apex Police Department is honored to once again support their efforts. Through November 12, we’re collecting nonperishable food donations to help survivors and their families as they rebuild their lives.

📍 Drop-off: Apex Police Department lobby, 205 Saunders Street
📅 Collection dates: November 1–12
🥫 Requested items: Canned proteins, fruits and vegetables; pasta and rice; cereal and oatmeal; soups; individually packaged snacks; and shelf-stable beverages. See the attached list for more options.

Please do not donate expired items or items nearing expiration.

Each donation helps Greyson and Amy honor Emily’s memory through care for others. Thank you for helping us carry that kindness forward 💛

The Apex Police Department stands in solidarity with the Cherokee Indian Police Department and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians as they mourn the line-of-duty death of Detective Jeff Smith.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, fellow officers, and the community he served.

Our agencies serve different communities, but our commitment to protecting others connects us. We stand alongside our tribal law enforcement partners in service, in grief, and in honoring those we have lost.

Across North Carolina’s law enforcement community, this loss is felt deeply. We mourn alongside you and honor the life and service of our brother in blue.

🚧 Downtown Apex Traffic Alert: Crosswalk Construction Begins October 26th

As part of the streetscape project, crews will begin crosswalk improvements at the intersection of N. Salem and W. Chatham streets.

📍 East Side Closure is First
Beginning Monday, Oct. 26, the east side of this intersection will temporarily close. Drivers will not be able to turn east onto Chatham Street from Salem Street (or access Salem St from the east side of this intersection) during this time. Work is expected to take about a week and a half.

📍 West Side Closes Once East Side is Complete
Crews will reopen the east side once work is complete, then move to the west side of the intersection. Similar closures and turn restrictions will be in place for another 1.5 weeks.

Please follow posted detour signs, plan ahead for extra travel time, and continue supporting our downtown businesses during construction!

🎃 Be more prepared for Halloween than we were to film this reel. 😂

The “three quick safety tips” you were supposed to get:

1️⃣ Stick to the sidewalks. Stay out of the road, use crosswalks and look both ways before crossing. Phones down, eyes up!

2️⃣ See and be seen. Carry a flashlight or glow sticks and stick to well-lit areas. Don’t approach homes or vehicles that aren’t well lit. Make sure your costume lets you see clearly, too. “Would be very nice” [🙄]

3️⃣ Check your candy. Have an adult inspect treats before digging in. Toss anything unwrapped or with torn or open packaging, and check labels for food allergens.

A few bonus reminders, because we’ve already established this production did not go as planned:

👻 Accompany younger children. For older kids going with friends, agree on a route and time to be home. Never enter someone’s home or vehicle for a treat.

🚗 Drivers: Slow down, put distractions away and watch for children crossing unexpectedly or stepping out between parked cars. Check carefully before backing up, and always drive sober.

🍬 And finally… have fun and be safe! Most importantly, when deciding which superhero to be, remember: police have more fun than fire. Obviously. 😉🚓🚒

REMEMBER: The Town does not set a date or time for trick-or-treating. Families typically trick-or-treat on Halloween, October 31, regardless of which day of the week it falls on.
