Philipstown says it will have aggressive response to storm damage

Central Hudson have surveyed and staked out / flagged new pole locations to run power lines in at least two places along Old Albany Post Rd. The main section runs south from Chapman Road to connect the northern part to the southern part - eliminating the last section of OAPR without power lines. I know they have the right of way and justification (to improve reliability), so it is probably a done deal. Just wanted to check in and make people aware.

Residents of East Mountain Road and other dirt road supporters in Philipstown - a petition asking the town to drop plans for paving on East Mountain Road:

Also against further paving are other locals and visitors to the mountain who appreciate walking or scenic driving on a dirt road along the northern edge of Fahnestock Park. We all admire our dirt roads and spend our money in town. We are concerned about the danger of more accidents from faster-driv...

Philipstown Highway Budget 2015 workshop is this coming Wednesday, 10/15/2014 7:30pm at Town Hall. The highway dept is proposing literally miles of dirt road paving in 2015 and future years. Basically same proposal as last year. It is unlikely Town will approve most of these but the community needs to show opposition to this nutty plan and to slow the creeping paving that is happening already (Lane Gate Rd done and East Mt Rd approved by the board). Here is the proposed budget with paving highlighted in yellow: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4NlOmlPj4R2Y0QxMUhUbkh5N0k/view?usp=sharing

Article where our Supervisor announces plan to pave portions of Old Albany Post Road.

"...[Richard Shea and]... John Van Tassel cast the argument in terms of not only saving nature, lives, and property as well as dollars..." "...there’s going to be paving this [coming] year. I’m not going to mince words. I’m not going to lie. It’s going to happen..." "...targets include the Saunders Hill stretch of Old Albany Post Road, a separate patch of Old Albany Post Road, and the western end of South Mountain Pass..."
