**Storm Update**

The Eastham Emergency Management Team has been closely monitoring the Nor'easter forecast for this weekend. We have held off until now to post any information as the forecast has been fluctuating. Although local meteorologists still say that changes in the storm track and intensity are possible, we are beginning to lock in a better idea of what to expect this weekend.

So far for our area, it looks like we can expect stormy weather from sometime on Friday afternoon, through sometime on Monday. Winds of 50+ MPH are possible, and rain could total up to 5-6 inches. Coastal flooding and beach erosion are possible at the time of high tides. We also expect storm drains to become overwhelmed, which will lead to road flooding in some areas. Power outages are always possible under these conditions.

Please use the next couple of days to make any preparations necessary.

--Bring in or tie down patio furniture, trash barrels, umbrellas, and other loose objects that can become airborne in strong winds.

--Fully charge cell phones, portable batteries, and flashlights in case power is lost.

--If capable, remove leaves and debris from gutters and storm drains to help prevent flooding.

--Have at least a few days of water, nonperishable food, medications, and pet supplies readily available. (A good practice for all storm situations)

--Monitor weather forecasts and local emergency alerts, and avoid traveling during periods of heavy rain, flooding, or damaging winds.

The Eastham Emergency Management Team will continue monitoring this storm closely. We will post additional updates on social media during the next couple of days and will utilize other emergency notification tools, such as CodeRed, if the situation warrants.

Members of the Eastham Windmill Weekend Committee and Eastham Staff Members have just met to discuss tomorrow's events and the weather forcast. Due to the heavy rain that is forecast to begin mid to late morning, we have decided to move the start of the Road Race and the Parade each up by one hour. The road race will now begin at 7am at First Encounter Beach and the parade will begin at 9am from Old Orachar Road, travelling down Route 6 to the windmill. We will reassess the weather in the morning and reluctantly cancel the parade if absolutely necessary, but we are hoping the earlier start time will allow us to get it in. The road race will happen rain or shine. If any additional changes are made, another call will be sent tomorrow morning. Let's hope for a dry stretch in the morning so that we can enjoy the road race and parade and better yet a dry day for all of the amazing festivities that are planned! Thank you.

As we celebrate Labor Day, we take a moment to honor three remarkable individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving our community and retired from the Eastham Fire Department in the past couple of months.

In July LT. Rachel Topal retired. Rachel has been a member of this department since July 1, 2002, when she was appointed to the Eastham call department. LT. Topal was appointed to the department as a full-time member July 7, 2005, until her retirement in July of 2026.

August saw the retirement of LT. Maurice Wiley. LT Wiley was appointed to the Eastham Fire Department on January 15, 2009. LT Wiley came to Eastham from the Wellfleet Fire Department. LT Wiley retired in August 2026.

In September Firefighter/EMT James McGrath was appointed to the Eastham call department in 1992 and was appointed as a full-time firefighter on July 7, 2005, until his retirement September 3, 2026.
