Traffic Stop Leads to Dealing Arrests and Large Seizure of More Than a Pound of M**h
On Wednesday, June 10th, at approximately 6:15pm, Deputy Gus Hogan conducted a traffic stop along SR 450 west of Bedford. The driver was identified as Crystal Travis (47 years old of Bedford) and the passenger was identified as Thomas Mitchell (60 years old from California). During the course of the stop, Deputy Hogan detected indicators of criminal activity. Deputy Kenton Carter arrived to assist and deployed his K9 partner, Boon, who gave a positive alert for the presence of illegal drugs.
During a probable cause search of Travis’s vehicle, officers located hypodermic syringes, drug paraphernalia, and just over one pound of methamphetamine. After the investigation was complete, officers arrested both Travis and Mitchell. They were both incarcerated in the Lawrence County Jail for the offenses of Dealing M**hamphetamine (Level 2 Felony), Possession of M**hamphetamine over 28 Grams, Possession of Hypodermic Syringes (Level 6 Felony), and Possession of Paraphernalia (B Misdemeanor).
Sheriff Day praises the pro-active efforts of Deputies Hogan and Carter, while emphasizing that this seizure and the arrests demonstrate the continued commitment of the Sheriff’s Office to hold drug dealers accountable for spreading this poison across the community. “Thanks to the excellent police work by Deputy Hogan and Carter, more than a pound of methamphetamine will not reach the hands of our community members who are struggling with addiction. Seizures of this size do not happen without dedication and hard work. They continue to make a difference!”
