Ruby and Fayla came to live with him and his humans in 2013, after being pulled from the local shelter. They all loved each other very much. Ruby got her Light Body in April 2023. Fayla is the Only Dog of the momma. This page is Bodhi's legacy, and will share Rescues and adoptable animals in need. Bodhi's momma called him Puppi Dog when he was feral. When he rescued her and went to his forever home, momma said he was too big to be Puppi Dog. She asked him "What's your name?" He sat an looked at her. In a few minutes, the name 'Bodhi' came into her head Then she said "Bodhi? Are you Bodhi?" The answer was obvious, as Bodhi's excitement was evident. Bodhi is a Sanskrit word meaning 'enlightenment'. The Buddha sat under the Bodhi Tree and attained enlightenment. Bodhisatvas are evolved souls who choose to incarnate as teachers for lifetime after lifetime, to help other souls on the path to self knowledge. Momma didn't think up, or choose the name - she asked for it to be revealed, then waited for the answer. Bodhi was born on Pueblo land - sacred land - in northern New Mexico. His furmom was part of a small, ever changing pack of feral dogs living off the land, or venturing off the Pueblo to raid garbage cans or sometimes get a handout. It is a hard life. A lot of competition for small prey from coyotes, hawks, and occasional bear or big cat. Bodhi's furmom was an 'oldtimer'. She became semi - domestic; comfortable enough with some humans to go indoors on cold nights, and was fed regularly. She lived on her own terms, and in spite of the attempts of professional rescuers for over two months, could not be caught or trapped. (She had been trapped as part of a spay/neuter program, along with the litter Bodhi was from - but he wasn't captured.) She enjoyed the comfort of warm shelter on cold or wet nights, good food, some attention - but she still roamed the Pueblo land. On July 3, 2012 Momma received a call saying Girley had died unexpectedly, and quickly. As it turns out, Girley was fatally bitten by a rattlesnake. She was buried, with ceremony, on the land she loved. Girley would show up at an establishment that had a kitchen, located at the boundary of Pueblo land. There were a couple of women there who felt sorry for the emaciated Ridgeback mix, and would feed her. She began bringing Bodhi when he was seven months or so. When he was around a year old, he let a human touch him. He knew his mother occasionally allowed two of the humans to touch her. And he decided, it felt GOOD! One day, the kitchen lady brought a blue collar. Bodhi came right to her, and sat ever so still while she adjusted the collar, and when she was done, he shook all over and strutted around showing it off. One day, he was caught in a crate, and taken to a Vet. He was neutered, wormed, and vaccinated. When thae anesthetic wore off, he was in a home with the kitchen lady, and the quiet man. At first, it was hard, because he was used to roaming freely, for miles. He got lots of walks, and decided he liked this life with humans. Bodhi lives happily with his 'Rescues' and enjoyed being a part of a small domestic pack with the neighbor dogs, with whom he shared 5 acres (fenced). His life on the Pueblo land was much harder - scrounging and sometimes fighting for food, an encounter with a bear that left a long gash on his face, and and unknown injury to his right front leg which left a slight deformity. All before he was a year old. Today, he is an 'Only Dog' living with his 2 human companions. He is a sweet boy, a little night blind, and currently dealing with a little nose problem - chronic boogers. (Vet visit this week.) He happily sleeps under the blankets on cold nights, and loves treats. Bodhi and his humans recently moved onto a 480 acre ranch, where it is hope an animal sanctuary can be created. He loves to play with his Ball, take long hikes, lay in the sun, and snack on Greenies. His momma says he filled the hole and made her whole. Bodhi is one of the lucky ones. He is in his Furever home. He wanted a page so he can help other furends find their furever home!
